Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of cytomegalovirus anterior uveitis and endotheliitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Rina La Distia Nora et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of CMV anterior uveitis and endotheliitis. Acute CMV anterior uveitis commonly presented with high intraocular pressure and mild anterior chamber inflammation, and showed good response to topical ganciclovir gel or oral valganciclovir. Chronic CMV anterior uveitis and endotheliitis required escalated concentration and frequency of treatment, with adequate induction and maintenance phases to prevent recurrences.

Polymorphisms of the cytomegalovirus glycoprotein B genotype in patients with Posner-Schlossman syndrome

Ruyi Zhai et al.

Summary: This observational study aimed to investigate the distribution of CMV gB genotypes in the eyes of PSS patients. The study found that gB genotype 1 was the most prevalent, and patients with genotype 3 were more likely to have bilateral attacks. The results suggest a potential association between CMV gB gene and the pathogenicity of CMV virus strain in PSS patients.

Treatment of cytomegalovirus anterior segment infection with intravitreal injection of ganciclovir in adjunction with or without oral valganciclovir: a long-term results

Yu-Chun Cheng et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the therapeutic outcome of intravitreal injection of ganciclovir with/without oral valganciclovir for CMV anterior segment infection, showing a median recurrence-free survival time of nearly 4 years. The strategy effectively stabilized or improved visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and corneal endothelial cell counts in patients with CMV anterior segment infection.

Classification Criteria for Cytomegalovirus Anterior Uveitis

Douglas A. Jabs et al.

Summary: Machine learning was used to determine classification criteria for anterior uveitides, including 89 cases of CMV anterior uveitis with key criteria of unilateral anterior uveitis and positive CMV polymerase chain reaction assay in aqueous humor. The misclassification rates were low, making the criteria suitable for clinical and translational research purposes.
