Altered Differential Expression of Genes and microRNAs Related to Adhesion and Apoptosis Pathways in Patients with Different Phenotypes of Endometriosis

Luana Grupioni Lourenco Antonio et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the gene expression (MAPK1 and CAPN2) and microRNA expression (miR-30a-5p, miR-7-5p, miR-143-3p, and miR-93-5p) involved in adhesion and apoptosis pathways in different types of endometriosis. Samples were collected from patients with superficial peritoneal endometriosis (SE), deep infiltrating endometriosis (DE), and ovarian endometrioma (OE), as well as control group without endometriosis. The results showed that SE had lower expression of pro-survival genes and miRNAs compared to DE and OE, indicating different pathophysiological mechanisms for SE.

Overexpression of miR-200b-3p in Menstrual Blood-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Endometriosis Women

Rafael Zucco de Oliveira et al.

Summary: The relationship between Sampson's theory and the presence of mesenchymal stem cells (MenSCs) in the menstrual flow and the changes in post-transcriptional regulatory processes in endometriosis are not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the imbalance of miRNAs in MenSCs related to the disease. Through analysis of databases and a case-control study, the researchers found that miR-200b-3p was upregulated in endometriosis MenSCs and may play a role in cell proliferation and the mesenchymal-epithelial transition process.

Plasma microRNAs can be a potential diagnostic biomarker for endometriosis

Zhihong Zhuo et al.

Summary: In this study, differential expression of circular miRNA was identified between normal women and women with endometriosis through literature review and analysis of miRNA data from databases. Functional enrichment analysis indicated that these miRNAs may be involved in multiple pathways related to endometriosis. The results suggested that these four miRNAs could serve as prognostic markers in endometriosis.

Inflammatory MicroRNAs and the Pathophysiology of Endometriosis and Atherosclerosis: Common Pathways and Future Directions Towards Elucidating the Relationship

Zubeen D. Azari et al.

Summary: Emerging data suggests that endometriosis is associated with subclinical atherosclerosis, and both diseases are linked to inflammation. MicroRNAs play a crucial role in regulating inflammatory pathways and their circulating levels have been found altered in both endometriosis and atherosclerosis. This review discusses the differentially expressed inflammatory circulating miRNAs in endometriosis, compares them to circulating levels associated with atherosclerosis when possible, and explores their mechanistic studies in relevant models.

Summary: This study identifies key miRNAs in ovarian endometriosis through integrated bioinformatic analysis, revealing the crucial roles of the miR-200 family, miR-106a-363 cluster, and miR-183/96/182 cluster in the pathogenesis of the disease. These miRNAs are associated with cell adhesion, locomotion, and binding, highlighting their potential as therapeutic targets.

Summary: This study found significant differences in endometrial tissues between endometriosis cases and controls. The controls had more proliferating uterine natural killer cells and decidualized endometrial stromal cells, while the cases had more cells expressing inflammatory and senescent phenotypes.

Immunohistochemical expression of Drosha is reduced in eutopic and ectopic endometrium of women with adenomyosis

I. Ormenezi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the expression of Dicer, Drosha, and Exportin-5 in the eutopic and ectopic endometrium of women with adenomyosis. The results showed lower Drosha expression in the eutopic endometrium of women with adenomyosis compared to women without the disease, and a correlation between Drosha expression in the ectopic and paired eutopic endometrium. No significant difference was observed in Dicer or Exportin expression.

Identification of suitable reference genes for mesenchymal stem cells from menstrual blood of women with endometriosis

Victoria S. Zucherato et al.

Summary: This study explores the stability of 32 candidate reference genes in MenMSCs derived from menstrual blood, recommending EIF2B1 and POP4 as suitable reference genes for RT-qPCR data normalization and suggesting avoiding commonly used GAPDH and ACTB reference genes. This research provides insights for future endometriosis studies and experimental designs using MenMSCs from a minimally invasive tissue source.

Eutopic endometrium from women with endometriosis and chlamydial endometritis share immunological cell types and DNA repair imbalance: A transcriptome meta-analytical perspective

Omero Benedicto Poli-Neto et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify key similarities between eutopic endometrium of women with endometriosis and chlamydia-induced endometritis, considering tissue microenvironment heterogeneity, gene expression profiles, and enrichment pathways. Both conditions showed similar distributions of cell types in the microenvironment, downregulation of DNA repair genes, and immune response pathway evasion, with some chlamydial endometritis samples lacking enriched immune pathways.

Role of miRNAs in Normal Endometrium and in Endometrial Disorders: Comprehensive Review

Kamila Kolanska et al.

Summary: The molecular responses to hormonal stimuli in the endometrium are regulated at transcriptional and post-transcriptional stages. MicroRNAs play a role in physiological mechanisms, with their expression patterns in the endometrium being of interest. Alterations in miRNA expression in pathological situations can either cause or result from existing pathologies. Rigorous analysis is needed due to the complexity of miRNA actions and the diversity of signaling pathways controlled by miRNAs.
