Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury: Mechanisms of injury and implications for management (Review)

Jianfeng He et al.

Summary: Myocardial infarction is a leading cause of death in patients with coronary heart disease worldwide. Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) results in more serious damage to the ischemic myocardium when the blood supply is restored. The mechanisms of MIRI involve oxidative stress, calcium overload, energy metabolism disorder, apoptosis, endoplasmic reticulum stress, autophagy, pyroptosis, necroptosis, and ferroptosis. Apoptosis and autophagy have received more attention, but necroptosis and ferroptosis also play important roles. However, the exact mechanism of MIRI remains unclear.

Pyroptosis: A Newly Discovered Therapeutic Target for Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Yu Zheng et al.

Summary: Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury can cause cell death and organ dysfunction, and different types of cell death occur during this process. Pyroptosis, closely related to I/R injury, may be targeted for the treatment of I/R injury by focusing on its signaling pathways and key regulators.

Escaping cell death via TRAIL decoy receptors: a systematic review of their roles and expressions in colorectal cancer

Kelly Xue Jing Jong et al.

Summary: This review discusses the role of TRAIL decoy receptors in modulating TRAIL-induced apoptosis in colorectal cancer. The current available in vitro, in vivo, and human studies suggest that decoy receptors might be associated with the reduced sensitivity towards TRAIL treatment, although there are discrepancies among different research groups.

Pathophysiology of sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy

Steven M. Hollenberg et al.

Summary: This review explores the definition, epidemiology, diagnosis and pathophysiology of septic cardiomyopathy, focusing on interpreting this condition in the clinical context. Advances in diagnostic techniques have increased sensitivity in detecting myocardial abnormalities, posing challenges in linking these abnormalities to therapeutic strategies. Sophisticated methodologies have elucidated various pathophysiological mechanisms, but the question of whether these are adaptive responses remains to be definitively answered.

HIF-1α in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury

Jie Zheng et al.

Summary: HIF-1 alpha plays a crucial role in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury by improving mitochondrial function, reducing oxidative stress, activating protective signaling pathways, and interacting with non-coding RNAs. Studies support the activation of HIF-1 alpha as a therapeutic target for MIRI intervention.
