Prevalence of eosinophilic, atopic, and overlap phenotypes among patients with severe asthma in Saudi Arabia: a cross-sectional study

Hamdan Al-Jahdali et al.

Summary: The prevalence of eosinophilic, atopic, and overlap phenotypes among patients with severe asthma in Saudi Arabia was investigated. The study found that 45% of severe asthma patients in Saudi Arabia had the eosinophilic phenotype, with approximately half of them having overlap with the atopic phenotype. There were no significant differences in asthma control and oral corticosteroid use patterns across different phenotypes.

Type 2 inflammation in asthma and other airway diseases

Jorge Maspero et al.

Summary: Chronic inflammatory airway diseases, such as asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis, are a global health concern. Understanding the pathophysiology of type 2 inflammation, which involves both the innate and adaptive immune systems, is crucial for improving patient outcomes. Targeted therapies based on this understanding offer hope for better management of these diseases.

Influence of vascular endothelial growth factor on neutrophil activation in asthmatics

Krzysztof Gomulka et al.

Summary: This study investigated the expression of CD69 and CD11b markers on peripheral neutrophils after VEGF stimulation in asthmatics. The results showed that VEGF might insignificantly activate neutrophils in asthmatics, and the modulated expression of CD69 and CD11b on peripheral neutrophils is not related to potential contribution of the VEGF gene polymorphism.

Eosinophilic and Noneosinophilic Asthma An Expert Consensus Framework to Characterize Phenotypes in a Global Real-Life Severe Asthma Cohort

Liam G. Heaney et al.

Summary: By analyzing patients with severe asthma from 11 countries globally, this study found the prevalence of eosinophilic and noneosinophilic asthma phenotypes, as well as the differences in characteristics between the two phenotypes, providing important insights for personalized treatment.
