Evaluation of mixed dye combination by spectral study for the application as photosensitizer in photogalvanic cells for solar energy conversion and storage

Shachi Tiwari et al.

Summary: The present study investigates mixed dye combinations for enhanced performance of photogalvanic cells by studying 55 possible combinations of binary mixed dyes. Among these combinations, MB+BCP shows the widest absorption range in the visible wavelength spectrum and retains λmax value of both dyes. The stable mixed dye combination may serve as an efficient photosensitizer to enhance the performance of photogalvanic cells.

DNA Intercalators Inhibit Eukaryotic Ribosomal RNA Synthesis by Impairing the Initiation of Transcription

William J. Andrews et al.

Summary: The study found that DNA intercalators/groove binders can effectively inhibit Pol-I specific transcription without affecting its synthetic ability. These compounds have limited effect on transcription by Pol-II and III, demonstrating the hypersensitivity of Pol-I transcription. The research suggests that alterations in the 3D structure of the rDNA promoter may affect the stability of the pre-initiation complex and initiation.

Polyphenols as Antitumor Agents Targeting Key Players in Cancer-Driving Signaling Pathways

Manuel Humberto Chairez-Ramirez et al.

Summary: Polyphenols have been shown to regulate signaling pathways central to cancer development, progression, and metastasis. They induce protein modifications, particularly on p53, influencing its role in DNA damage response, apoptosis control, and cell-fate decisions. Understanding the effects of polyphenols on key players in cancer-driving signaling pathways can lead to improved targeted therapies with reduced toxicity for cancer treatment.

Elucidating the intercalation of methylated 1,10-phenanthroline with DNA: the important weight of the CH/H interactions and the selectivity of CH/π and CH/n interactions

Angel Sanchez-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the intercalation of methylated phenanthroline derivatives in different numbers and positions between guanine-cytosine base pairs. The findings suggest a key and lock mechanism in which interacting fragments fit together to achieve optimal interactions for system stabilization. Interaction energies were calculated using different methods, highlighting the importance of CH/H interactions in the total energy.
