Extracellular histones are a target in myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury

Mohammed Shah et al.

Summary: This study found that histones released during myocardial infarction are toxic to cardiomyocytes, and this toxicity is independent of TLR4. Inhibiting the release of histones can reduce cardiomyocyte death, providing a new therapeutic opportunity for ischemia-reperfusion injury.

A Selective Inhibitor of Cardiac Troponin I Phosphorylation by Delta Protein Kinase C (δPKC) as a Treatment for Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Nir Qvit et al.

Summary: Inhibition of protein kinase C delta (delta PKC) is shown to protect against myocardial infarction and improve mitochondrial function. Additionally, blocking the interaction between cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and delta PKC can attenuate tissue injury and mitigate IR-induced mitochondrial dysfunction.

Modulation of cardiac thin filament structure by phosphorylated troponin-I analyzed by protein-protein docking and molecular dynamics simulation

Summary: This study reveals the phosphorylation regulation mechanism of cardiac-specific tropomyosin by utilizing protein modeling and molecular dynamics simulation. The results suggest that phosphorylated residues may interact closely with tropomyosin and the N-lobe of TnC, thereby affecting cardiac muscle contraction and relaxation.

Impact of High-Density Lipoproteins on Sepsis

Bart De Geest et al.

Summary: This article reviews the impact of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) on sepsis, highlighting the role of HDL in sequestration and neutralization of inflammatory effects caused by pathogen lipid moieties. HDL also plays a key role in the removal of pathogen-associated lipids from the body. Low HDL cholesterol levels are associated with an adverse prognosis in sepsis. Potential HDL-directed interventions for sepsis treatment include apolipoprotein A-I-based therapies, recombinant phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP), and cholesterol ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibition.

Phosphorylation of Troponin I finely controls the positioning of Troponin for the optimal regulation of cardiac muscle contraction

Ehsan Kachooei et al.

Summary: Through paramagnetic spin labeling method, the interaction between NH2-TnI region and TnC N-domain is studied, suggesting phosphorylation-induced changes in the orientation of TnC N-domain under saturating Ca2+ conditions. This allosteric model proposes that phosphorylation triggers cooperative changes in the interaction of NH2-TnI region with TnC, leading to the release of TnI switch-peptide and enhancement of myocardial relaxation rate.
