Mood disorders in children following neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy

Maria Alvarez-Garcia et al.

Summary: In this study, children survivors of NHIE were found to have an increased risk of developing mood disturbances. They scored lower in developmental and socio-emotional status compared to healthy children. This finding highlights the need for further research on the long-term consequences of NHIE in children.

All roads lead to the motor cortex: psychomotor mechanisms and their biochemical modulation in psychiatric disorders

Georg Northoff et al.

Summary: Psychomotor abnormalities are observed in psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. These abnormalities are thought to be related to dopamine-based abnormalities in subcortical-cortical circuits. The psychomotor mechanisms operate dimensionally and are cross-nosological, with levels of psychomotor activity across different disorders being related to the expression of these mechanisms.

Characterization of dopamine D2 receptor coupling to G proteins in postmortem brain of subjects with schizophrenia

Iker Egusquiza et al.

Summary: This study characterized G-protein activation by D1R and D2R agonists in postmortem human brain and compared D2R functional status between schizophrenia and control subjects. Functional D2R presence was found in caudate, while responses in the cortex did not correspond to D1R or D2R. The results suggest that the functional evaluation of dopamine receptors in postmortem human brain appears to be restricted to signalling through inhibitory G(i/o) proteins.
