Effect of pH on antioxidant properties of ablated CeO2 nanoparticles in photocatalytic process

Maxim Alexandrovich Pugachevskii et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties of ablated cerium dioxide nanoparticles were studied in the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue in the presence of a ZnO nanocatalyst. It was found that CeO2 nanoparticles exhibit good antioxidant properties due to increased content of structural defects in the surface atomic layers of ablated nanoparticles. The antioxidant activity of the particles was found to increase with the pH of the aqueous solution.

Porous, Oxygen Vacancy Enhanced CeO2-x Microspheres with Efficient Enzyme-Mimetic and Photothermal Properties

Cagil Zeynep Sungu Akdogan et al.

Summary: Porous and defective gray cerium oxide microspheres with multifunctional enzyme-like activities were synthesized by reducing monodisperse-porous cerium oxide microspheres. The microspheres had higher Ce(III) atomic fraction, more oxygen vacancy, and lower oxygen content on the surface. The band gap energy was smaller for the microspheres, indicating enhanced light adsorption. The microspheres exhibited superior enzyme-like activity for the detection of nitrite and could generate reactive oxygen species. Additionally, the microspheres had a photothermal response under laser irradiation.

B. Poornaprakash et al.

Summary: This study synthesized Co-substituted CeO2 nanocrystals using wet chemical precipitation method and investigated their structural, optical, and magnetic properties. The results showed that low concentrations of Co substitution enhanced the photoluminescence characteristics of CeO2 nanoparticles, while higher concentrations decreased the intensity of PL emission. Additionally, all Co-substituted samples exhibited ferromagnetic nature, with the inclusion of Co content leading to an increase in magnetic parameters such as saturation magnetization and residual magnetization up to a certain point.

Enhanced Artificial Enzyme Activities on the Reconstructed Sawtoothlike Nanofacets of Pure and Pr-Doped Ceria Nanocubes

Lei Jiang et al.

Summary: A simple one-step thermal oxidation process was established to increase {110} and {111} nanofacets on ceria nanocubes, leading to improved enzymatic activities. The enhancement may be attributed to the sawtoothlike {111} nanofacets and defects that facilitate oxygen mobility and the formation of oxygen vacancies on the surface, without changing the bulk properties. Additionally, possible mechanisms of nanoceria as artificial enzymes were proposed in this study, suggesting the potential for future design of highly efficient nanozymes.
