Fibroblast growth factor-21 as a novel metabolic factor for regulating thrombotic homeostasis

Shuai Li et al.

Summary: FGF-21 functions as an antithrombotic agent by inhibiting blood clot formation and promoting fibrinolysis. It exhibits anticoagulant and antiplatelet effects, and regulates the expression of inflammatory factors involved in thrombosis.

Effect of Aerobic Exercise Training on Circulating Fibroblast Growth Factor-21 Response to Glucose Challenge in Overweight and Obese Men: A Pilot Study

Masahiro Matsui et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the effect of aerobic exercise training on serum FGF21 levels in overweight and obese men. The results showed that aerobic exercise can reduce blood glucose and decrease serum FGF21 levels during glucose loading.

Effects of Calorie Restricted Diet on Oxidative/Antioxidative Status Biomarkers and Serum Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 Levels in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Patients: A Randomized, Controlled Clinical Trial

Somayyeh Asghari et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of a calorie-restricted diet on oxidative/anti-oxidative status in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the potential mediating role of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF-21). The results showed that the calorie-restricted diet had favorable effects on NAFLD but did not modify oxidative/anti-oxidative status in these patients.

FGF21-Srtuin 3 Axis Confers the Protective Effects of Exercise Against Diabetic Cardiomyopathy by Governing Mitochondrial Integrity

Leigang Jin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of FGF21 signaling in mediating the benefits of exercise on diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). The results suggest that the FGF21-SIRT3 axis plays a crucial role in preserving mitochondrial integrity and may serve as a potential therapeutic target for DCM.

Resistance training attenuates circulating FGF-21 and myostatin and improves insulin resistance in elderly men with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus: A randomised controlled clinical trial

Fatemeh Shabkhiz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of resistance training on FGF-21 and myostatin in elderly men. The results demonstrated that a 12-week resistance training significantly reduced both proteins in elderly men with and without T2D, with a larger reduction of myostatin in elderly men without T2D.

Effect of Various Exercise Regimens on Selected Exercise-Induced Cytokines in Healthy People

Remigiusz Domin et al.

Summary: Different forms of physical activity stimulate the release of cytokines from tissues into the bloodstream, affecting various organs and physiological processes. Well-studied exercise-induced cytokines include interleukin 6 and irisin, while less researched ones like myostatin and follistatin also play important roles.

Impact of acute exercise on immediate and following early post-exercise FGF-21 concentration in adults: systematic review and meta-analysis

Mousa Khalafi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the changes in circulating fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF-21) during and after acute exercise, and identified that acute exercise increases FGF-21 levels regardless of body weight. FGF-21 concentrations were elevated in normal weight participants 1 hour post-exercise, while tended to increase in overweight and obese participants. The levels were restored to near baseline values 3 hours after exercise.
