Narrow Leafed Lupin (Lupinus angustifolius L.) beta-Conglutin Seed Proteins as a New Natural Cytotoxic Agents against Breast Cancer Cells

Julia Escudero-Feliu et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is the most common tumor in women and the second most common type of cancer worldwide. Despite advances in therapies, a significant number of patients develop metastasis, leading to treatment failure. In this study, Narrow Leafed Lupin beta-conglutins proteins were evaluated for their potential as a natural cytotoxic agent against breast cancer cells.

Combined Gamma Conglutin and Lupanine Treatment Exhibits In Vivo an Enhanced Antidiabetic Effect by Modulating the Liver Gene Expression Profile

Paloma Lucia Guerra-Avila et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the antidiabetic effect of different dose combinations of C gamma and lupanine on a T2D rat model, and assessed the biochemical parameters and liver gene expression profile. The combination of 28 mg/kg BW C gamma + 20 mg/kg BW lupanine significantly reduced glycemia and lipid levels, and positively influenced the expression of several genes associated with oxidative stress, apoptosis regulation, and glucose and fatty-acid homeostasis.

Nutritional Characteristics of the Seed Protein in 23 Mediterranean Legumes

Youssef Elamine et al.

Summary: The search for new sources of plant protein is driven by increasing demand in developing countries and interest in healthy alternatives. Analysis of 23 wild legume seeds in Spain showed that species from tribe Trifolieae had the most balanced amino acid composition, but were deficient in sulfur amino acids. Some seeds were found to have high levels of the anticancer amino acid canavanine.

Role of myeloperoxidase in inflammation and atherosclerosis (Review)

Christian Frangie et al.

Summary: Myeloperoxidase is a crucial enzyme involved in the pathogenesis of diseases such as atherosclerosis. It is responsible for oxidizing low-density lipoprotein particles, leading to endothelial dysfunction and foam cell formation. High levels of myeloperoxidase have been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Lupinus albus γ-Conglutin: New Findings about Its Action at the Intestinal Barrier and a Critical Analysis of the State of the Art on Its Postprandial Glycaemic Regulating Activity

Giuditta C. Heinzl et al.

Summary: This study investigated the transport of gamma-Conglutin (gamma-C) across the intestinal barrier and its effects on glucose uptake and transport. The results showed that gamma-C can be transported to the basolateral side in an in vitro system, and it can also decrease glucose uptake in cells and the jejunum.

Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Bioavailable Protein Hydrolysates from Lupin-Derived Agri-Waste

Sergio de la Paz et al.

Summary: Agri-food industries produce protein-rich by-products that can be used as a valuable source of bioactive peptides. Lupine protein hydrolysates have shown anti-inflammatory properties that may be beneficial for disease prevention. Studies have demonstrated that these peptides can cross the intestinal barrier and exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Further research on protein hydrolysates from food production industries could lead to the development of novel, natural biopeptides with high value-added potential.
