AXL Receptor Tyrosine Kinase as a Promising Therapeutic Target Directing Multiple Aspects of Cancer Progression and Metastasis

Marie-Anne Goyette et al.

Summary: Metastasis is a complex process involving the acquisition of specific traits by cancer cells and the cooperation of non-neoplastic cells in the stroma. AXL receptor tyrosine kinase plays a crucial role in multiple steps of the metastatic cascade and contributes to deregulation of the tumor microenvironment. Inhibition of AXL has been shown to be beneficial for the treatment of metastatic cancers, but other roles of AXL in cancer progression are still being explored.

The Development of AXL Inhibitors in Lung Cancer: Recent Progress and Challenges

Yun Beom Sang et al.

Summary: AXL, along with MER and TYRO3, is a receptor tyrosine kinase from the TAM family. Overexpression of AXL is associated with tumor cell growth, invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, and immune suppression. It is being studied as a marker of prognosis or a target in cancer treatment. Various agents targeting AXL, including small molecule inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, and antibody-drug conjugates, have been actively researched. AXL's role in acquired therapy resistance in non-small cell lung cancer patients has been emphasized, and combination treatment with AXL inhibitors and other therapies is being explored.

Microalgae extract induces antidepressant-like activity via neuroinflammation regulation and enhances the neurotransmitter system

Kazunori Sasaki et al.

Summary: The increasing prevalence of mental disorders, such as depression, is a serious public health concern. Microalgae, which contain various bioactive compounds, have been found to exhibit health benefits such as antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and anti-obesity effects. This study focused on the microalgal extract (ME) from Botryo-coccus terribilis and found that it ameliorated dexamethasone-induced cytotoxicity and induced antidepressant-like activity in stressed mice. ME was also found to regulate neuro-inflammation and modulate neurotransmitter systems, suggesting its potential in the treatment of depressive disorders.

Curcumin regulates anti-inflammatory responses by AXL/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

Mengjiao Sun et al.

Summary: This study found that curcumin has a protective effect on experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) by inhibiting microglia-mediated neuroinflammation. The findings provide a theoretical basis for the clinical management of multiple sclerosis (MS).
