Improving plant productivity by re-tuning the regeneration of RuBP in the Calvin-Benson-Bassham cycle

Christine A. Raines

Summary: The Calvin-Benson-Bassham (CBB) cycle is the most important pathway on earth, capturing and converting CO2 into organic molecules for the basis of life. This cycle has been extensively studied and is highly conserved in nature. The enzymes in this cycle regenerate the CO2 acceptor molecule RuBP. Manipulating RuBP regeneration has the potential to improve photosynthesis and increase crop yields.

Transcriptome Analysis Reveals Genes and Pathways Associated with Salt Tolerance during Seed Germination in Suaeda liaotungensis

Jieqiong Song et al.

Summary: This study revealed the mechanisms of salt stress tolerance during brown seed germination in Suaeda liaotungensis, including the importance of transcription regulation and hormone signal transduction, ROS metabolism, cell wall organization or biogenesis, and carbohydrate metabolic process. Furthermore, functional analysis demonstrated that overexpression of SlNAC2 significantly enhanced salt tolerance during the germination stage in Arabidopsis.

High temperature-mediated disturbance of carbohydrate metabolism and gene expressional regulation in rice: a review

Deng Qin-Di et al.

Summary: Global warming increases the frequency of high-temperature events, posing risks to rice growth and production. Studies show that high temperatures disrupt rice carbohydrate metabolism, affecting fertilization and production, while heat-tolerant rice varieties with high photosynthesis and carbohydrate usage efficiencies suffer less damage. The regulation of rice genes in response to high temperatures, especially through heat-inducible post-transcriptional regulations, is complex. Future directions in heat-tolerant rice breeding and challenges to be addressed are also discussed.
