High strain-rate compression behavior of woven CF/PEEK thermoplastic composites at the glassy state and high-elastic state

Zhongxiang Pan et al.

Summary: A reliable hot air-flow heating approach is creatively used to investigate the compression behavior of carbon fiber reinforced polyetheretherketone (CF/PEEK) woven composites under extreme thermo-mechanical loads. The results reveal that the thermal softening effect is dominant over the strain-rate strengthening effect.

Strain/Displacement Field Reconstruction and Load Identification of High-Speed Train Load-Bearing Structure Based on Linear Superposition Method

Yangyang Cheng et al.

Summary: This article proposes a strain/displacement field reconstruction and load identification method based on linear superposition. The experimental strains obtained from fiber Bragg grating sensors and simulated strains stored offline are used to update strain thresholds and reconstruct strain and displacement fields in real time. The numerical validation through finite-element analysis demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed reconstruction method, and the impact of sensor location and number on reconstruction error is analyzed. The experimental evaluation on an aluminum alloy crossbeam illustrates the real-time reconstruction and identification of load magnitude and location using strain thresholds.

Automatic shape optimisation of structural parts driven by BGM and RBF mesh morphing

Stefano Porziani et al.

Summary: The great flexibility of emerging production processes based on additive manufacturing stimulates the development of automatic shape optimisation methods, which use the biological growth method to achieve more affordable complex optimized shapes. This method can be applied to design optimization of structural parts by updating the shape of the finite element model, enabling the parts to be thickened or lightened.

Improving the energy absorption capacity of square CFRP tubes with cutout by introducing chamfer

Zhibo Song et al.

Summary: The study found that introducing a chamfer can enhance the energy absorption capacity of CFRP tubes with cutouts. In most cases, the chamfer can eliminate the negative effects of the cutouts, leading to improved energy absorption efficiency.

Static and dynamic analysis of thin functionally graded shell with in-plane material inhomogeneity

Lihua Wang et al.

Summary: This work investigates the static and dynamic problems of thin functionally graded shells with in-plane material inhomogeneity, introducing a new meshfree radial basis collocation method for solution. Numerical simulations show that material inhomogeneity can shift dangerous positions in statics and affect natural frequencies and mode shapes in dynamics. These findings can be used for material property design in engineering applications.

Yangyang Cheng et al.

Summary: An algorithm based on load-strain linear superposition method is proposed to reconstruct the strain field distribution of the structure under arbitrary static load. The analysis shows good accuracy with an average relative error of 2.8%, 1.6%, 2.2%, and 2.1%. The feasibility of strain field reconstruction is verified in detail by a static load test, demonstrating the effectiveness of the method.
