Efficient N-Doped Porous Carbonaceous CO2 Adsorbents Derived from Commercial Urea-Formaldehyde Resin

Jiamei Huang et al.

Summary: Porous carbons with abundant availability and tunable physical properties have attracted tremendous interest for CO2 capture application. However, their insufficient CO2 utilization performance due to the poor active sites on their surface is a drawback. In this study, we report the fabrication of N-rich porous carbon derived from urea-formaldehyde resin via a two-step synthetic route involving physical carbonization and KOH activating. The optimized sample with 9.87 wt% N exhibits notable CO2 uptake capacities and high selectivity efficiency, attributed to advanced textural properties and incorporation of nitrogen into carbon surfaces.
