Enhanced dehydrogenation properties and mechanism analysis of MgH2 solid solution containing Fe nano-catalyst

Hydrogen absorption/desorption cycling performance of Mg-based alloys with in-situ formed Mg 2 Ni and LaH x ( x = 2, 3) nanocrystallines

Summary: In this study, the hydrogen absorption/desorption cycling properties of Mg-based alloys with in-situ formed Mg2Ni and LaHx (x = 2, 3) nanocrystallines were investigated. The results showed that the Mg-Ni-La alloys exhibited improved hydrogen storage cycling properties and maintained storage hydrogen above 5.5 wt% after 200 cycles. Microstructure observation revealed that powders sintering and hydrogen decrepitation occurred during the cycles, and the in-situ formed LaHx (x = 2, 3) and Mg2Ni nanocrystallines stabilized the microstructures and hindered powders sintering.

Enhanced hydrogen properties of MgH2 by Fe nanoparticles loaded hollow carbon spheres

Summary: In this study, the synergistic effect of Fe nanoparticles and hollow carbon spheres composite on the hydrogen storage properties of MgH2 was investigated. The MgH2-Fe-HCS system exhibited an onset desorption temperature of 225.9 degrees C and a hydrogen storage capacity of 5.60 wt%. The MgH2-Fe-HCS composite absorbed 5.60 wt% hydrogen within 55 s and desorbed 5.50 wt% hydrogen within 12 min under 20 atm H2 pressure at 300 degrees C. The desorption activation energy of MgH2-Fe-HCS was found to be 84.9 kJ/mol. The composite also showed better cyclability up to 24 cycles of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation of MgH2.

Enhancing hydrogen storage properties of MgH2 using FeCoNiCrMn high entropy alloy catalysts

Summary: In this study, the successful preparation of FeCoNiCrMn high entropy alloy (HEA) loaded MgH2 and HEA's effect on the hydrogen storage properties of Mg/MgH2 were reported. The HEA demonstrated high catalytic activity for hydrogen dissociation and recombination reaction, lowering the activation energy of dehydrogenation reaction. Furthermore, the reaction between Co, Ni, and Mg enhanced the dehydrogenation reaction through the hydrogen pumping mechanism. The loaded HEA composite exhibited robustness against particle aggregation, enabling stable reversible hydrogen storage processes.

Microstructure evolution and decomposition behavior of an novel core-multi-shell structure TiH2 foaming agent

Summary: Al foams have attracted attention for their lightweight, high specific strength, energy absorption, sound absorption, damping, and electromagnetic shielding properties. However, the low mechanical property remains a challenge due to the mismatch between the melting point of Al and Al alloys and the decomposition temperature of the TiH2 blowing agent. This study presents a novel TiH2 foaming agent with a core-multi-shell structure, which effectively improves the slow release property of hydrogen and matches well with the melting point of Al and Al alloys.

Synthesis of low-cost biomass charcoal-based Ni nanocatalyst and evaluation of their kinetic enhancement of MgH2

Summary: In this study, a low-cost biomass charcoal (BC)-based nickel catalyst (Ni/BC) was introduced into the MgH2 system by ball-milling, which significantly improved the hydrogen desorption and absorption kinetics of MgH2. The Ni/BC catalyst enhanced the release of hydrogen at lower temperatures and achieved a high proportion of dehydrogenation within a short time. Moreover, it enabled hydrogen absorption at low temperatures and rapid absorption under specific conditions. The catalyst reduced the activation energy and improved the cycle stability of MgH2.
