A general strategy to synthesize single-atom metal-oxygen doped polymeric carbon nitride with highly enhanced photocatalytic water splitting activity

Fei Yu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a universal strategy to enhance the OER activity of PCN-based photocatalysts by synthesizing single-atom metal-oxygen doped PCN through electrostatic adsorption of oxometallate anions on protonated amorphous melon. The MO structure functions as OER active centers and enhances photoexcited charge separation by introducing hole-trapping doping levels in bandgaps.

In situ growth of ZnO/Ag2O heterostructures on PVDF nanofibers as efficient visible-light-driven photocatalysts

Chuanfeng Zang et al.

Summary: Visible-light-driven heterostructured PVDF/ZnO/Ag2O photocatalysts were fabricated and exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance in the degradation of pollutants. This was achieved by combining the electrospinning, hydrothermal, and in situ deposition techniques to anchor ZnO nanorods on PVDF nanofibers and enhance the photocatalytic efficiency with silver oxide nanoparticles as a photosensitizer.

Highly efficient photocatalytic degradation of the emerging pollutant ciprofloxacin via the rational design of a magnetic interfacial junction of mangosteen peel waste-derived 3D graphene hybrid material

Gongchang Zeng et al.

Summary: In this study, a graphene hybrid material derived from mangosteen peel waste was constructed, with the addition of a magnetic interfacial junction to enhance carrier transfer efficiency with the assistance of a magnetic field. The designed 3D graphene/Cd0.5Zn0.5S hybrids exhibited outstanding photocatalytic performance, with ciprofloxacin degradation efficiency reaching 95% removal in 15 minutes, a 67% reduction in photocatalytic degradation time compared to previous research without an applied external magnetic field. This magnetic field strategy provides a new perspective for water treatment and various catalytic fields, with low energy consumption.

Synthesis of N-Doped Magnetic WO3-x@Mesoporous Carbon Using a Diatom Template and Plasma Modification: Visible-Light-Driven Photocatalytic Activities

Peyman Gholami et al.

Summary: The synthesis of three-dimensional photocatalysts shows potential for chemical conversion and hydrogen generation for environmental protection and energy shortage challenges. In this study, a magnetic WO3-x@mesoporous carbon catalyst was synthesized using diatom frustules as a template, followed by plasma modification to enhance its photocatalytic activity. The modified catalyst showed improved surface area, visible light harvesting, and higher hydrogen generation rates compared to the untreated WO3 nanorods.

Molecular engineering of carbon nitride towards photocatalytic H2 evolution and dye degradation

Asif Hayat et al.

Summary: The incorporation of organic electron-rich heterocyclic monomer 2,6-dimethylmorpholine (MP) into electron-poor graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) semiconductor by solid-state co-polymerization for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from Rhodamine B dyes (RhB) has been shown to enhance the performance significantly. The results indicate the potential for tailor-designed photocatalysts with effective pollutant degradable capabilities, with the CN-MP copolymer showing six times higher hydrogen evolution rate and two times higher pseudo-order kinetic constant for RhB photodegradation compared to g-CN.
