A multivariate coupled economic model study on hydrogen production by renewable energy combined with off-peak electricity

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: This study develops an economic prediction model for hydrogen production from renewable energy complemented with off-peak electricity, considering the carbon emission cost of the off-peak electricity from the grid. The research investigates the variation of hydrogen cost with off-peak electricity utilization hours under different carbon prices and grid average emission factors. The results show that the cost of hydrogen is influenced by the multiplication product of the carbon price and the average carbon emission factor. The use of off-peak electricity reduces the cost of hydrogen when the multiplication product is below a critical value but increases it when above the critical value. The study also highlights the constraint on off-peak electricity utilization hours due to the emission intensity requirement for low-carbon or clean hydrogen. Additionally, a generalized multivariate coupled analysis method is developed to identify key coupling variables at different stages of the project.
