Topology of flow and heat transfer from prisms in square array

Zhanying Zheng et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the flow characteristics of a system of nine square prisms in a square array. The results show that the evolution of flow patterns, fluid forces, heat transfer, vortex shedding, and recirculation bubbles are influenced by the pitch ratio. The findings provide insights into the correlation between heat transfer and flow patterns, including the impacts of shear layer reattachment, flow recirculation, and vortex shedding.

Heat transfer and flow around cylinder: Effect of corner radius and Reynolds number

Talaat Abdelhamid et al.

Summary: This study investigates the flow, heat transfer, and aerodynamic forces on a square cylinder with varying corner radius ratio and Reynolds number. The flow patterns and parameters are dependent on the corner radius ratio and Reynolds number, affecting flow separation, reattachment, boundary layer, and separation bubble. Parameters such as forces, Strouhal number, Nusselt number, and wake structure are sensitive to changes in the corner radius ratio and Reynolds number.

Effect of variable pitch on forced convection heat transfer around a helically twisted elliptic cylinder

Hyun Sik Yoon et al.

Summary: This study numerically evaluated the performance of a variable pitch helically twisted elliptical cylinder through large eddy simulation for forced convection heat transfer. The results showed that the VPHTE cylinder can reduce drag, suppress lift fluctuation, and provide smaller total surface-averaged Nusselt numbers over time compared to smooth and HTE cylinders. The VPHTE and HTE cylinders formed inclined elliptical shapes with local peaks of time-averaged Nusselt numbers, and the temperature contour distribution reflected stably elongated shear layers and delayed vortex shedding.

Flow and heat transfer across two inline rotating cylinders: Effects of blockage, gap spacing, Reynolds number, and rotation direction

M. R. Rastan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of rotating cylinders on wake dynamics and thermal attributes, focusing on factors such as Reynolds number, cylinder spacing, rotational speed, and computational domain size. Numerical simulations are validated against existing data for single rotating cylinders, and it is found that rotating cylinders require larger computational domains than stationary cylinders. The fluid forces are highly sensitive to cylinder rotation, with a shift from co-rotation to counter-rotation changing the direction of the drag force.

Energetic structures in the turbulent boundary layer over a spanwise-heterogeneous converging/diverging riblets wall

Honglei Bai et al.

Summary: Time-invariant secondary flows have been observed in turbulent boundary layer flows over spanwise-heterogeneous rough walls, connected with instantaneous large-scale structures. Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique was used to extract dominant energetic structures, revealing significant effects on velocity spatial correlations and Reynolds stress distributions.
