Mechanical unfeelability concentrator through topology optimization

Motoaki Ota et al.

Summary: This Letter presents a computational approach to design a metastructure that combines cloaking and stress concentration functionalities. The optimized cloak-concentrators can reproduce outer displacements while concentrating stress on an interior domain, and can withstand loads at any location with arbitrary Young's modulus. This design scheme opens up possibilities for designing metastructures with multiple functions in elastostatics.

Nanoscale Thermal Cloaking in Silicon Film: A Molecular Dynamic Study

Jian Zhang et al.

Summary: With the miniaturization of microelectronic devices, nanoscale thermal shielding is becoming increasingly important. In this study, a thermal cloak was constructed using amorphization and perforation methods, and it was found that the cloaking effect was more pronounced under constant temperature boundary. The thermal cloak composed of amorphous and perforated structures exhibited better performance and had the least disturbance to the background temperature field.

Performance prediction of nanoscale thermal cloak by molecular dynamics

Jian Zhang et al.

Summary: The unique functions of nanoscale thermal cloaks have attracted researchers' interest. By using graphene and silicon film, they have designed chemically functionalized and in situ annealed nanoscale thermal cloaks and observed nanoscale cloaking through ion irradiation for the first time. However, the design methods are complex and limited their engineering applications.

Acoustic cloak designed by topology optimization for acoustic-elastic coupled systems

Garuda Fujii et al.

Summary: This study focuses on developing optimal acoustic cloaks through topology optimization and acoustic-elastic interactions, in order to render objects unobservable to airborne and water-borne sounds. The designed cloaks are expressed as iso-surfaces representing sharp structural boundaries between acoustic and elastic media, ensuring that scatterers remain invisible to sound waves of multiple frequencies from various angles.
