Effect of microencapsulated watermelon (Citrullus Lanatus) rind on flow-mediated dilation and tissue oxygen saturation of young adults

Monica Volino-Souza et al.

Summary: The study found that ingestion of microencapsulated watermelon rind containing 4 g of L-citrulline can improve endothelial function in healthy adults. However, it does not have an effect on tissue oxygen saturation.

Effect of curcumin on endothelial function in humans and their proposed physiological mechanism: Insights in formulating curcumin products supplementation

Gustavo Vieira de Oliveira et al.

Summary: This narrative review discusses the current evidence on the effect of curcumin on endothelial function in humans and explores the mechanisms by which curcumin can improve endothelial function. Curcumin supplementation appears to improve endothelial function, possibly due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and its regulation of adhesion molecule levels. It remains unclear whether formulated curcumin products have a stronger impact on endothelial function compared to non-formulated curcumin, and further studies are needed.

Food-derived polyphenol compounds and cardiovascular health: A nano-technological perspective

Gustavo Oliveira et al.

Summary: Polyphenols have high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but their bioavailability is limited. Food encapsulation technology can improve the bioavailability of polyphenols, with nanoparticles showing potential in enhancing their effects on cardiovascular health. Further research is needed to determine whether nano-encapsulated polyphenols have a greater impact on cardiovascular health compared to non-encapsulated polyphenols.

Eccentric exercise per se does not affect muscle damage biomarkers: early and late phase adaptations

Nikos V. Margaritelis et al.

Summary: The study found that acute high-intensity unaccustomed eccentric exercise initially caused greater muscle damage compared to concentric exercise, but this effect diminished with repeated sessions. At the end of the 10-week training period, there were no significant differences in muscle damage biomarkers between the two exercise protocols, and strength gains were similar.
