Nonstationarity and potential multi-decadal variability in Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall and Southern Annular Mode teleconnection

Suneet Dwivedi et al.

Summary: This study found that the relationship between the Southern Annular Mode Index (SAMI) and Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall (ISMR) is non-stationary and may have multi-decadal variability. However, there is a strong correlation between SAMI and June-July ISMR, which is linked to sea surface temperature anomalies in the Southern Hemisphere.

Interannual Climate Variability and Malaria in Mozambique

Ryan D. Harp et al.

Summary: Malaria is a major public health concern in Mozambique, with a close relationship to climate phenomena such as El Nino-Southern Oscillation and Subtropical Indian Ocean Dipole. By leveraging the predictability of these climate phenomena, it may be possible to improve public health planning in Mozambique and beyond.

Understanding the effect of climate change in the distribution and intensity of malaria transmission over India using a dynamical malaria model

Shweta Chaturvedi et al.

Summary: Efforts have been made to quantify the spatio-temporal malaria transmission intensity over India using the VECTRI dynamical malaria model. The likely effect of climate change on malaria transmission intensity in different parts of India is also investigated. It is shown that the maximum number of malaria cases over India occur during the Sept-Oct months, whereas the minimum during the Feb-Apr months, and that the malaria transmission intensity and length of transmission season over India is likely to increase in the future climate due to global warming.
