Potential of Lemna minor for removal of methylene blue in aqueous solution: Kinetics, adsorption mechanism, and degradation pathway

Muhammad Fauzul Imron et al.

Summary: This research focused on the potential and mechanism of Lemna minor in removing methylene blue. The results showed that equilibrium plant weight, contact time, and concentration were achieved at 2 g of plant weight for 2 days with a removal efficiency of 82.48% in 50 mg/L of MB concentration. The removal mechanisms of MB by L. minor were determined as phytosorption and biodegradation.

Studies on Zero-cost algae based phytoremediation of dye and heavy metal from simulated wastewater

Arvind Singh et al.

Summary: In this study, filamentous algae were investigated as a biological adsorbent for removing contaminants from synthetic wastewater. Various isotherm and kinetics models were studied for methylene blue decolorization and Cr(VI) removal, with the Dubinin-Radushkevitch isotherm theory and pseudo-2nd order model providing the best fit. The maximum adsorption capacities and removal efficiencies for methylene blue and Cr(VI) were achieved, showcasing the potential of algae-based technology for zero-cost pollutants removal in wastewater treatment.
