Effect of sediment deposition on phosphate and hydrogen sulfide removal by granulated coal ash in coastal sediments

Ilwon Jeong et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the impact of sediment deposition on the removal of PO4-P and H2S-S by GCA. The results show that GCA fully covered by sediment is less effective in removing PO4-P and H2S-S compared to other conditions, due to the fine sediment particles blocking the GCA pores.

Utilizing a granulated coal bottom ash and oyster shells for nutrient removal in eutrophic sediments

Ilwon Jeong et al.

Summary: The study found that Granulated coal bottom ash and oyster shells (GBO) are effective in-situ capping materials for remediating eutrophic coastal sediments, reducing the concentrations of PO4-P and SiO2-Si in pore water.

Field study on short-term changes in benthic environment and benthic microbial communities using pyrolyzed oyster shells

Maheshkumar Prakash Patil et al.

Summary: The use of pyrolyzed crushed oyster shells (PCOS) significantly reduced H2S concentration in sediments and decreased the levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in pore water and overlying water. Additionally, PCOS treatment altered the composition of dominant bacterial communities in the sediment, leading to changes in microbial diversity.

Study on immobilization of nitrogen and phosphorus in sediments using modified fly ash composite material

Jiale Zou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the preparation of a new type of particle-modified fly ash composite material and its application in immobilizing nitrogen and phosphorus pollutants in sediment. The experimental results show that the modified fly ash composite material cover layer has a good immobilization effect on ammonia nitrogen, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus in the polluted sediment, indicating its practical value.

Diversity of Microbial Communities in Sediment from Yeosu Bay, Republic of Korea, as Determined by 165 rRNA Gene Amplicon Sequencing

Jun-Ho Lee et al.

Summary: Monitoring natural variations in microbial diversity is crucial for the environmental processes in marine sediment. The microbial diversity in Yeosu Bay sediment was evaluated using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, which identified Proteobacteria, Chlorotlexi, and Bacteroidetes as the predominant phyla in all samples.
