Green synthesis of Ag2O nanoparticles using Punica granatum leaf extract for sulfamethoxazole antibiotic adsorption: characterization, experimental study, modeling, and DFT calculation

Noureddine El Messaoudi et al.

Summary: Silver oxide nanoparticles synthesized from pomegranate leaf extract showed adsorption capacity for removing antibiotics from aqueous solutions. Experimental data and theoretical models confirmed the homogeneous adsorbed layer of antibiotics on the surface of silver oxide nanoparticles and their ability to be reused. Quantum chemical calculations revealed that the unprotonated form of the antibiotic interacted more favorably with the silver oxide surface. These results suggest that silver oxide nanoparticles have promising potential for antibiotic removal from wastewater.

Rasel Ahmed et al.

Summary: Industrial wastewater treatment using fixed bed column adsorption process with used black tea leaves as a low-cost adsorbent was optimized for continuous adsorption of Fast Green dye. Experimental results showed that higher dye concentration and column length were favorable, while a high column diameter was unfavorable for adsorptive removal of the dye. The study also employed Thomas and Yoon-Nelson models to predict characteristic parameters and optimize operational conditions for the process.

Summary: This research focuses on the removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) from water using nanofiltration membrane and activated carbon synthesized from Elaeagnus angustifolia. The results show that both adsorption with activated carbon and nanofiltration treatment can effectively remove 2,4-D, with high removal efficiencies of 96% and 97% respectively. Comparing the two processes, nanofiltration is found to be the most suitable treatment technique.

Mesoporous activated carbon from mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) peels by H3PO4 assisted microwave: Optimization, characterization, and adsorption mechanism for methylene blue dye removal

Ali H. Jawad et al.

Summary: This study reported a facile method to synthesize mangosteen peels activated carbon (MSPAC) with high carbon content and mesoporous structure. MSPAC showed excellent adsorption capability for methylene blue (MB) dye removal from aqueous solutions. The optimization of adsorption conditions using response surface methodology resulted in the best parameters for maximum MB removal. The kinetic and equilibrium results were best represented by the PSO and Langmuir models, respectively. Thermodynamic findings indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. This work highlights the significance of MSPAC as an environmentally friendly adsorbent for removing cationic synthetic dyes from polluted water.

High-Surface-Area-Activated Carbon Derived from Mango Peels and Seeds Wastes via Microwave-Induced ZnCl2 Activation for Adsorption of Methylene Blue Dye Molecules: Statistical Optimization and Mechanism

Nur Shakinah Razali et al.

Summary: In this study, high-surface-area-activated carbon (MSMPAC) was synthesized using Mango (Mangifera indica) seeds and peels mixed fruit wastes as a renewable precursor and microwave-induced ZnCl2 activation. The performance of MSMPAC in removing cationic dye (methylene blue, MB) from water was evaluated. The key adsorption factors (MSMPAC dose, pH, and time) were investigated using the Box-Behnken design. Langmuir model was found to fit the adsorption isotherm data well, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 232.8 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics followed both pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models. MB adsorption on MSMPAC surface was spontaneous and endothermic. The mechanisms of MB adsorption included electrostatic forces, pore filling, pi-pi stacking, and H-bonding.

Insight into adsorption mechanism, modeling, and desirability function of crystal violet and methylene blue dyes by microalgae: Box-Behnken design application

Ahmed Saud Abdulhameed et al.

Summary: In this study, microalgae (MAG) was used as an environmentally friendly and efficient adsorbent for the removal of crystal violet (CV) and methylene blue (MB) dyes from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process was optimized using a Box-Behnken design (BBD), and the kinetics and isotherm analyses revealed that the adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models. MAG exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 243.0 mg/g for CV and 297.1 mg/g for MB. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption of CV and MB dyes onto MAG was spontaneous and endothermic. The adsorption mechanism involved electrostatic forces, n-?? stacking, and H-bonding. Overall, MAG shows promise as an effective adsorbent for removing dyestuffs from industrial effluent.
