Perturbation of the gut microbiome by Prevotella spp. enhances host susceptibility to mucosal inflammation

Aida Iljazovic et al.

Summary: The colonization of the intestinal microbiota with Prevotella genus has been linked to exacerbation of intestinal inflammation in mice. This study found that Prevotella intestinalis alters the composition and function of the ecosystem, leading to a reduction in short-chain fatty acids, specifically acetate, and a decrease in IL-18 levels, which exacerbates intestinal inflammation. Supplementation of IL-18 can alleviate the inflammation associated with Prevotella colonization.

A Mixture of Lactobacillus fermentum HFY06 and Arabinoxylan Ameliorates Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Acute Ulcerative Colitis in Mice

Fang Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the potential of a synbiotic composed of arabinoxylan (AX) and Lactobacillus fermentum HFY06 in preventing and treating colitis by alleviating weight loss, reducing inflammation, and reversing histopathological changes in the colon. The synergistic effect of AX and L. fermentum HFY06 inhibited the NF kappa B signaling pathway activation, downregulated pro-inflammatory factors, and exerted anti-colitis effects.
