A synergistic hydrothermal-deep eutectic solvents (DES) pretreatment for acquiring xylooligosaccharides and lignin nanoparticles from Eucommia ulmoides wood

Wei-Hua Gong et al.

Summary: An effective synergistic pretreatment method was developed to prepare xylooligosaccharides (XOS) and lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) from Eucommia ulmoides biomass. The method involved acetic acid-catalyzed hydrothermal pretreatment (HTP) for XOS preparation and deep eutectic solvents (DES) delignification for LNPs fabrication. The results showed high yield of XOS and low molecular weight of DES lignin fractions, indicating the potential of this method for bio-based chemicals and biomaterials development.

Comparison of Corn Stover Pretreatments with Lewis Acid Catalyzed Choline Chloride, Glycerol and Choline Chloride-Glycerol Deep Eutectic Solvent

Yuan Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that acidified solutions of ChCl and glycerol were more efficient at removing lignin and xylan from corn stover compared to DES. Acidified ChCl solution showed better pretreatment performance than acidified glycerol solution. Additionally, the presence of 20% water in DES reduced its capability for delignification and xylan removal. Enzymatic saccharification of pretreated CS was highly correlated to delignification and cellulose crystallinity, but less correlated to xylan removal.
