Stimuli-responsive pesticide carriers based on porous nanomaterials: A review

Jie Zhou et al.

Summary: Pesticides are widely used in modern agriculture to improve crop yield and suppress diseases and pests. However, traditional pesticides have adverse effects and can cause environmental pollution and food safety risks. Stimuli-responsive nanopesticides designed by nanoencapsulation techniques can release active ingredients on-demand, improving effectiveness and safety. Porous nanomaterials (PNMs) have received particular attention as nanocarriers for pesticide release due to their high loading capacity and adjustable porosity. This review focuses on the use of PNMs to fabricate stimulus-responsive nanopesticides, summarizing their structure, synthesis methods, applications, and challenges in the field.

Biotoxicity Evaluation of a Cationic Star Polymer on a Predatory Ladybird and Cooperative Pest Control by Polymer-Delivered Pesticides and Ladybird

Min Dong et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a cationic star polymer (SPc) as a pesticide nanocarrier to evaluate its safety against predatory ladybirds. The results showed that SPc had a high toxicity against ladybird larvae, leading to cell membrane and nucleus damage, as well as bacterial infection in the ladybird guts. Coapplication of SPc-loaded pesticides and ladybirds achieved effective pest control.

Visualization of the process of a nanocarrier-mediated gene delivery: stabilization, endocytosis and endosomal escape of genes for intracellular spreading

Zhongzheng Ma et al.

Summary: A star polymer with positively-charged tertiary amine was synthesized and used to investigate the mechanism of gene delivery. The star polymer could protect gene fragments from degradation and promote cellular uptake and endocytosis. Transcriptome analysis revealed up-regulation of key genes involved in endocytosis. This study provides the first direct visualization of the detailed cellular process and mechanism of nanocarrier-mediated gene delivery.
