Biogenic Synthesis of Antibacterial, Hemocompatible, and Antiplatelets Lysozyme Functionalized Silver Nanoparticles through the One-Step Process for Therapeutic Applications

Pravin Dudhagara et al.

Summary: The study explores the synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), showing that heat-denatured lysozyme-mediated formulation can enhance bactericidal activity and blood compatibility. AgNPs also exhibit antiplatelet effects. The findings suggest that lysozyme-functionalized AgNPs have promising potential for addressing issues like in-stent restenosis and thrombosis.

Silver nanoparticle-protein interactions and the role of lysozyme as an antagonistic antibacterial agent

M. Beatriz Espeche Turbay et al.

Summary: The synthesis and antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles prepared in the presence of bovine serum albumin and lysozyme were evaluated. Lysozyme showed an antagonistic effect on the antibacterial efficacy of silver nanoparticles, due to specific protein interactions. This study highlights the importance of protein interactions in modulating the bactericidal effects of silver nanoparticles in biological media.

Patrizia Ferraboschi et al.

Summary: Lysozyme is a 14 kDa protein found in mucosal secretions and tissues of animals and plants, playing a key role in innate immunity by protecting against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It is known to have antimicrobial properties and has been studied for various applications as an alternative antibiotic in medicine, veterinary, and food preservation industries. The synergistic effects of lysozyme with other antimicrobial compounds are also highlighted in this review.

Self-Assembling Peptide Dendron Nanoparticles with High Stability and a Multimodal Antimicrobial Mechanism of Action

Zhenheng Lai et al.

Summary: Peptide dendron nanoparticles have shown promising antimicrobial activity against various bacteria, with C-16-3RP nanoparticle being the most active and biocompatible. These nanoparticles demonstrate excellent stability under physiological conditions and effectively treat acute peritonitis in mice. Through a series of analyses, it was revealed that C-16-3RP nanoparticles kill Gram-negative bacteria by disrupting their membranes, inhibiting ribosome biogenesis, and affecting energy generation.

Role of bacterial motility in differential resistance mechanisms of silver nanoparticles and silver ions

Lisa M. Stabryla et al.

Summary: Bacterial motility can be a significant predictor of AgNP resistance, guiding the development of nanoenabled antimicrobials. The study of bacterial resistance to AgNPs is still in its early stages, with limited understanding of the underlying mechanisms. The resistance to subinhibitory concentrations of AgNPs in Escherichia coli K-12 MG1655 strain was found to be associated with a cusS mutation, potentially enhancing silver ion efflux and suggesting a role for flagellum-based motility in the resistance mechanism.
