Visualization of biochar colloids transport and retention in two-dimensional porous media

Ying Zhao et al.

Summary: A real-time visualization system was developed to investigate the migration and retention mechanisms of biochar colloids in 2-D porous media under different conditions. The results showed that the electronegativity of biochar colloids and quartz sand increased with decreased ionic strength and increased pH, leading to reduced adhesion and enhanced migration. Additionally, a smaller media grain size inhibited the transport of biochar colloids.

Three-Dimensional Modeling of Heart Soft Tissue Motion

Mingzhe Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the geometric and physical methods related to soft tissue modeling were investigated. For geometric modeling, the problem of repeated inverse calculations of control points in the Bezier method was solved via re-parameterization, which improved the calculation speed. Regarding physical modeling, the fitting ability of the particle spring model to the anisotropy of soft tissue was improved by optimizing the topological structure of the model and introducing a dynamic elastic coefficient parameter.

Synthesis and properties of Poly(vinyl alcohol) hydrogels with high strength and toughness

Ying Chen et al.

Summary: PVA hydrogels with high strength and toughness can be fabricated through dual physical and chemical cross-linking. The best mechanical properties are achieved by reacting at room temperature and subsequently undergoing freeze-thaw and annealing treatment. Additionally, the mechanical properties of PVA hydrogel increase and then decrease with the increase of molecular weight or mass fraction. By changing the reaction solvent, the mechanical properties of PVA hydrogel can be effectively adjusted.

Summary: In this study, porous scaffold materials based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and gelatin (Gel) were successfully fabricated and characterized. The thermal stability of the PVA/Gel composite scaffold was improved by the addition of gelatin, without affecting the microstructure of the PVA scaffold. However, excessive gelatin content weakened the physical and chemical properties of the PVA scaffold.
