Adsorption of aqueous Cu(II) and Ag(I) by silica anchored Schiffbase decorated polyamidoamine dendrimers: Behavior and mechanism

Kaiyan Wu et al.

Summary: A class of silica anchored Schiffbase decorated polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers were synthesized and used to remove aqueous Cu(II) and Ag(I). The adsorption performance and mechanism were investigated. The results showed that the adsorption capacity depended on dendrimer generation, solution pH, contact time, temperature, and initial metal ion concentration. The optimal adsorption pH was 6 for both metal ions. The adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model, and film diffusion was the rate-controlling step. The adsorption isotherm indicated monolayer behavior with a chemical mechanism.
