Understand anisotropy dependence of damage evolution and material removal during nanoscratch of MgF2 single crystals

Chen Li et al.

Summary: This study systematically performed nanoscratch tests on MgF2 single crystals with different crystal planes and directions to understand the anisotropy dependence of damage evolution and material removal during the machining process. The results showed that anisotropy significantly affected the damage evolution. A stress field model considering anisotropy was developed, which revealed the mechanism of damage evolution induced by scratching.

Modelling and grinding characteristics of unidirectional C-SiCs

Shuoshuo Qu et al.

Summary: This study establishes a theoretical model and a numerical simulation model to research the micro-MRM of C-SiCs, and proves their reliability through experiments. The results show that fiber pull-out, fiber outcrop, matrix cracking, and interfacial debonding are the basic defects in C-SiCs. As the grinding depth increases, the grinding performance of C-SiCs gradually deteriorates.

Surface integrity and material removal mechanisms in high-speed grinding of Al/SiCp metal matrix composites

Sai Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of different grinding speeds on the surface integrity of SiC particle reinforced Al metal matrix composites. The results show that high-speed grinding improves surface quality through dynamic recrystallization mechanisms. Higher grinding speeds result in less damage. The study also identifies different layers in the subsurface and explores the deformation mechanisms of the Al alloy matrix and SiC particles.

Environmentally friendly grinding of C/SiCs using carbon nanofluid minimum quantity lubrication technology

Shuoshuo Qu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influences of dry grinding, wet grinding, and carbon nanofluid minimum quantity lubrication on the grinding performances of ceramic matrix composites. It is found that carbon nanofluid minimum quantity lubrication has a good cooling effect and can reduce grinding temperature, surface roughness, and grinding force. It also helps to obtain a better grinding surface morphology with fewer defects and significantly reduces energy consumption.

Investigating the grinding performance of unidirectional and 2.5D-C/SiCs

Yuying Yang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the grinding performances of unidirectional and 2.5D-C/SiCs, examining the effects of grinding depth and fibre architecture on grinding force, surface quality, and grinding debris. The study reveals that the grinding depth significantly influences the grinding properties of C/SiCs, with different damage modes observed in the two fibre architectures. The research provides insights for predicting and improving the grinding performance of C/SiCs with different fibre architectures.
