Inhomogeneous hidden semi-Markov models for incompletely observed point processes

Amina Shahzadi et al.

Summary: A general class of inhomogeneous hidden semi-Markov models is proposed for modeling partially observed processes that do not necessarily behave in a stationary and memoryless manner. The model considers time-dependent sojourn times of states and is applied to investigate the time-dependent incompleteness of global volcanic eruption records.

The Prediction of Remaining Useful Life of Aluminum Reduction Cells Based on Improved Hidden Semi-Markov Model

Jiarui Cui et al.

Summary: An improved prediction algorithm for the hidden semi-Markov model (HSMM) is proposed to predict the remaining useful life (RUL) of aluminum reduction cells (ARC). By analyzing the degradation process of the ARC, the parameters characterizing its degradation process are determined. The exponential distribution in the traditional HSMM is replaced with the Erlang distribution based on queuing theory to facilitate the prediction, and an improved forward recursion algorithm is introduced to simplify the calculation and enhance the accuracy of RUL prediction.

Analysis of assembly-time performance (ATP) in manufacturing operations with collaborative robots: a systems approach

Nan Chen et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a system-theoretic approach to analyze the assembly-time performance of assembly systems with collaborative robots, presenting an efficient algorithm using gamma distributions to approximate task times. System properties such as monotonicity and sensitivity, as well as potential bottlenecks, are investigated. A case study at an automotive powertrain assembly plant is introduced to demonstrate the applicability of the method and the effectiveness of reducing assembly time through collaborative robots.

Real-Time Assembly Support System with Hidden Markov Model and Hybrid Extensions

Arpad Gellert et al.

Summary: This paper presents a context-aware adaptive assembly assistance system that supports factory workers by embedding predictive capabilities. The focus of the research is on a predictor that suggests the next assembly step. Hidden Markov models are analyzed for this purpose. The experimental results show that the hidden Markov model is a viable choice to predict the next assembly step, and the hybrid predictor is even better, outperforming other models in some cases. However, to exhibit valuable predictive capabilities, an assembly assistance system for factory workers needs to embed multiple models.

Evolving Connectionist System and Hidden Semi-Markov Model for Learning-Based Tool Wear Monitoring and Remaining Useful Life Prediction

Muquan Lin et al.

Summary: In order to prevent issues caused by tool wear, this paper extracts time domain and frequency domain statistical features using a multi-sensory fusion approach and establishes a prediction model for tool wear. Through analyzing the distance correlation coefficient between 140 feature vectors and wear value, seven eigenvectors are selected as inputs for the prediction model, providing the most sensitive features to wear faults.

Exploring the Role of Trust and Expectations in CRI Using In-the-Wild Studies

Paulina Zguda et al.

Summary: In this study, interactions of children with humanoid robots in familiar spaces were explored, with a focus on the roles of trust and expectations in determining the success of Child-Robot Interaction (CRI). Observations from video recordings and transcripts of question-answering sessions revealed behaviors indicating trust towards the robot and children's expectations concerning the robot's capabilities and relationships. Guidelines for designing effective CRI scenarios were suggested based on these insights, and the use of in-the-wild methodologies for qualitative CRI studies was advocated.
