Cell therapy in patients with heart failure: a comprehensive review and emerging concepts

Roberto Bolli et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the results of clinical trials on cell therapy for patients with heart failure (HF). The results of Phase I-II trials in HF show promise, with several studies meeting their primary endpoint and demonstrating efficacy. Among the different cell types tested, mesenchymal stromal cells derived from bone marrow, umbilical cord, or adipose tissue show the most potential. Embryonic stem cells are unlikely to become a clinical therapy. The utility of cell therapy in HF remains to be determined, and larger, rigorous Phase III trials are needed.

A novel non-selective atypical PKC agonist could protect neuronal cell line from Aβ-oligomer induced toxicity by suppressing Aβ generation

Dongmei Zou et al.

Summary: In this study, an aPKC agonist named Z640 was identified using computer-assisted drug discovery and cell-based assays. It was found that Z640 could bind to PKC iota and activate its kinase activity, and it also showed potential in combating the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in a cell-based model.

Cardiac Cell Therapy for Heart Repair: Should the Cells Be Left Out?

Dashuai Zhu et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, often leading to end-stage heart failure and necessitating heart transplantation due to the lack of endogenous regenerative actions. Regenerative medicine and biomedical engineering strategies have been pursued to repair the damaged heart and restore normal function, utilizing both cellular and acellular products in combination with biomaterials. Substantial progress has been made to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying heart repair and regeneration, with potential opportunities for novel strategies in future research and clinical translation.

Utilizing Developmentally Essential Secreted Peptides Such as Thymosin Beta-4 to Remind the Adult Organs of Their Embryonic State-New Directions in Anti-Aging Regenerative Therapies

Klaudia Maar et al.

Summary: The dream of defeating aging has challenged scientists for centuries, with efforts to reverse cellular and molecular damage resulting in significant advancements. As our lifespan increases, physicians are facing more complex questions in their practice. Utilizing small molecules critical during embryonic development may hold the key to increasing regeneration and reversing the aging process.

Thymosin β4 released from functionalized self-assembling peptide activates epicardium and enhances repair of infarcted myocardium

Yong-li Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the release of T beta 4 from the functionalized SAP can effectively activate the epicardium and enhance the repair of infarcted myocardium. The delivery of SAP-T beta 4 showed promising results in promoting angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, myocardial regeneration, and improving cardiac function in myocardial infarction models.
