The petrogenesis of modern and ophiolitic lavas reconsidered: Ti-V and Nb-Th

John W. Shervais

Summary: Tectonic discrimination diagrams are important tools for understanding the origins of ancient volcanic rocks. This study re-evaluates the Ti-V and Nb/Yb-Th/Yb diagrams using a compilation of over 15,000 whole rock compositions. A new two-proxy diagram, Ti/V vs. Th/Nb, is proposed to combine the advantages of both diagrams.

Petrological and geochemical characterization of the arc-related Suru-Thasgam ophiolitic slice along the Indus Suture Zone, Ladakh Himalaya

I. M. Bhat et al.

Summary: The Ladakh Himalayan ophiolites preserve relics of the eastern part of the Neo-Tethyan Ocean, with equivalents found in the Kohistan region of Pakistan. The ophiolitic sequences in western Ladakh are complex and geochemically related to subduction, with peridotites showing a refractory nature and involvement in a subduction environment. Pyroxenites and gabbros are associated with the modern intra-oceanic island-arc tholeiitic sequence.

The significance of Upper Jurassic felsic volcanic rocks within the incipient, intraoceanic Dras Arc, Ladakh, NW Himalaya

Jessica M. J. Walsh et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the Dras Arc, an island arc terrane located in the Ladakh Himalaya. The research establishes the importance of determining the timing of inception and final collision of the Dras Arc for reconstructions of the Neotethyan Ocean. Felsic volcanic units with Upper Jurassic zircon U-Pb ages have been identified as the oldest reported units within the Dras Arc.

PGE and isotopic characteristics of Shergol and Suru Valley Ophiolites, Western Ladakh: Implications for supra-subduction tectonics along Indus Suture Zone

Irfan Maqbool Bhat et al.

Summary: The study of PGE geochemistry of mantle peridotites and Nd-isotope geochemistry of arc-related mafic rocks in the Indus Suture Zone (ISZ) in western Ladakh shows distinct characteristics indicating interaction between subduction zone tectonic settings and arc environments.

Tectono-magmatic evolution of Tethyan oceanic lithosphere in supra subduction zone fore arc regime: Geochemical fingerprints from crust-mantle sections of Naga Hills Ophiolite

Anisha Verencar et al.

Summary: This study provides a detailed petrological and geochemical analysis of the Naga Hills Ophiolite belt in the Indo-Myanmar range, revealing the origin and tectonic evolution of the mantle and crust in this region. The NHO suite includes well-preserved mantle and crustal sections with different mineral compositions and geochemical characteristics, reflecting the thermo-tectonic evolution of the Tethyan oceanic crust and upper mantle. By studying different rock samples, the study reveals the important roles of depleted MORB-type and enriched arc-type mantle components in the genesis of the NHO mantle and crust.

Low-titanium clinopyroxene composition of Nidar ophiolite gabbros, southeastern Ladakh Himalaya, India: implications to geotectonic setting

Ranjit Nayak et al.

Summary: This study focused on the petrography and clinopyroxene mineral chemistry of gabbroic rocks from the Nidar ophiolite complex in the southeastern part of Ladakh Himalaya, India. The low-titanium clinopyroxenes in these rocks are inferred to be tholeiitic in nature with an island-arc boninitic affinities, showing a wide compositional variation in CaO and exhibiting augitic to diopside compositional variation in the Wo-En-Fs ternary diagram.
