A novel solution for inverse heat conduction problem in one-dimensional medium with moving boundary and temperature-dependent material properties

Obinna Uyanna et al.

Summary: A novel approach using Tikhonov regularization method and filter coefficients has been proposed, which can accurately estimate heat flux in a one-dimensional domain with moving boundary and temperature dependent material properties. The method is computationally efficient and offers real-time operation, making it suitable for applications such as ablative thermal protection systems for space vehicles.

Numerical and experimental verification of the single neural adaptive PID real-time inverse method for solving inverse heat conduction problems

Shibin Wan et al.

Summary: In this paper, a single neural adaptive PID (SNA-PID) inverse method is proposed to estimate the thermal boundary condition. Compared with the traditional PID inverse method, SNA-PID can adaptively adjust the weights of PID parameters, thus improving the tuning effect and anti-interference ability.

Effect of shot peening on augmenting the thermo-fluid characteristic of a concentric tube water-to-air counter flow heat exchanger

Ganeshkumar Poongavanam et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the impact of modifying the external profile of the inner tube in a concentric tube heat exchanger via shot peening on heat transfer and pressure drop performance. The results show that increasing surface roughness can enhance heat transfer efficiency, while an increase in Reynolds number leads to a reduction in friction factor.

A modified sequential gradient-based method for the inverse estimation of transient heat transfer coefficients in non-linear one-dimensional heat conduction problems

Benjamin A. Tourn et al.

Summary: This study introduces an online sequential implementation of a gradient-based method for reconstructing transient heat transfer coefficients in the context of non-linear one-dimensional heat conduction problems, denoted as the sequential quasi-Newton method (SQNM). The proposed method is fast, robust, and reliable, demonstrating its suitability for reconstructing transient heat transfer coefficients in one- and two-dimensional non-linear heat conduction problems as a novel alternative strategy to other online inverse estimation procedures.

Implementation of total variation regularization-based approaches in the solution of linear inverse heat conduction problems concerning the estimation of surface heat fluxes

Benjamin A. Tourn et al.

Summary: This work proposes the extension of total variation regularization strategies to solve one-dimensional linear inverse heat conduction problems. Three solution procedures are tested and compared in terms of their performance, showing that the staircase effect dominates the reconstructions. Despite deteriorating the quality in some cases, it does not prevent the appropriate fulfillment of the reconstruction task. This study demonstrates the suitability and reliability of extending total variation approaches as a novel alternative to standard procedures in solving linear inverse heat conduction problems involving the estimation of surface heat fluxes.
