The suicide attempt rate was slightly higher in female patients compared to male patients. Persistence of suicidal ideation within acute phase treatment of major depressive disorder: analysis of clinical predictors

Summary: This study explores the contribution of baseline clinical characteristics in nonremission of suicidal ideation (SI) in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). The presence of insomnia, reduced need for sleep, low self-confidence, lack of cheerfulness, and comorbid panic disorder were associated with the lack of SI remission. The combination of baseline SI and insomnia was moderately effective in predicting the lack of SI remission. Insomnia and bipolar features should prompt a search for more effective treatment solutions in MDD patients with SI to achieve remission and prevent suicidal behavior.

Worldwide suicide mortality trends (2000-2019): A joinpoint regression analysis

Summary: Overall, global suicide mortality rates showed a decreasing trend, with the exception of the Americas where rates were on the rise. Countries like Barbados and Grenada exhibited the most significant reduction in mortality rates, while countries such as Lesotho and Cyprus experienced the highest increase in mortality rates among those with a rise. Further research is needed to investigate the reasons behind these trends and to recommend effective suicide prevention efforts in affected countries.

Most first-time suicide attempts during military service used violent methods.
