Loquat fruit-based carbon quantum dots as an ON-OFF probe for fluorescent assay of MnO4- in waters based on the joint action of inner filter effect and static quenching

Panpan Wang et al.

Summary: Loquat fruit is a high nutrition fruit that causes waste due to its short storage period. Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) based on loquat fruit were fabricated using a facile and green hydrothermal method. The CQDs showed different colors under daylight and UV light, with high fluorescence quantum yield. The addition of MnO4- quenched the fluorescence intensity of the CQDs, allowing them to be used as a sensitive ON-OFF nanoprobe for detection. The CQDs exhibited a wide linear range and low detection limit for MnO4- in environmental waters, with good selectivity and anti-interference capacity.

Sensitive, Selective and Reliable Detection of Fe3+ in Lake Water via Carbon Dots-Based Fluorescence Assay

Zhuang Xiang et al.

Summary: In this study, C-dots were synthesized via microwave irradiation using citric acid and ethylenediamine as carbon precursors. The fluorescence emissions of the C-dots could be selectively quenched by Fe3+, and the degree of quenching was linearly related to the concentrations of Fe3+. This led to the development of a sensitive fluorescence assay for Fe3+ detection with a broad linear range and low detection limit. Moreover, the assay showed high reliability in deionized water, tap water and lake water, making it potentially useful for Fe3+ monitoring in complex environments.
