Anti-plasmodial effects of quinine-loaded magnetic nanocomposite coated with heparin

Akram Khanmohammadi et al.

Summary: The application of nano-based materials in intelligent drug delivery systems is advancing rapidly and shows great potential for treating infectious diseases like malaria. In this study, a nanocomposite coated with heparin was designed to deliver quinine for anti-plasmodial purposes. The nanocomposite exhibited high anti-plasmodial activity and improved cytotoxicity, biotoxicity, and acute toxicity compared to free quinine. The presence of heparin also acted as a stabilizing agent for the nanocomposite.

Natural bone-mimicking nanopore-incorporated hydroxyapatite scaffolds for enhanced bone tissue regeneration

Chansong Kim et al.

Summary: This study developed a simple method to introduce nanopores into artificial bone graft materials and found that the introduction of nanopores significantly improved the mechanical strength, cell proliferation, and differentiation rates. The introduction of nanopores also enhanced bone regeneration, and the HAP scaffolds containing nanopores showed better bone regeneration efficiency compared to commercially available bone graft materials.

Three-dimensional porous reduced graphene oxide/hydroxyapatite membrane for guided bone regeneration

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential application of a three-dimensional porous reduced graphene oxide/hydroxyapatite composite membrane as a guided bone regeneration membrane. The membrane displayed good biocompatibility with MC3T3-E1 and HUVEC cells, enhanced ALP secretion, and promoted in vivo calvarial defect repair. The membrane's porous side and dense side structure show great potential as an ideal GBR membrane.

Nanocomposite powders of hydroxyapatite-graphene oxide for biological applications

Camila C. Lopes et al.

Summary: In this study, hydroxyapatite-graphene oxide (HA-GO) nanocomposites were produced and the influences of different concentrations of GO on their morphological and physicochemical properties were observed. The results indicated that HA-GO nanocomposites exhibited good bioactivity properties and showed a high level of cell viability when the concentration of GO was increased. These findings suggest that HA-GO nanocomposites have potential as bioactive bone grafts and promising biomaterials for bone tissue regeneration, especially at higher concentrations of GO.

Graphene Oxide/Chitosan/Hydroxyapatite Composite Membranes Enhance Osteoblast Adhesion and Guided Bone Regeneration

Sudan Liu et al.

Summary: Graphene oxide (GO) has good mechanical and hydrophilic properties, but a single GO membrane is not ideal for osteogenic cell adhesion. Composite membranes containing chitosan (CS) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) can simulate the multicomponent structure of an extracellular matrix for enhanced cell adhesion. The addition of HAP improves mechanical strength and cell adhesion, differentiation, and mineralization of osteoblasts, making GO/CS/HAP composite membranes a potential material for guided bone regeneration (GBR).
