Enzymatic Fischer-Tropsch-Type Reactions

Yilin Hu et al.

Summary: The Fischer-Tropsch (FT) process is used to convert a mixture of CO and H2 into liquid hydrocarbons for synthetic fuel production. However, enzymatic FT-type reactions, catalyzed by nitrogenase enzymes, metalloclusters and synthetic mimics, can also convert CO, CO2, and CN- into hydrocarbons under ambient conditions using H+ and e- as reducing equivalents. This review provides an overview of nitrogenase enzymes and metalloclusters, discusses the activities of nitrogenase-derived FT systems, and explores the mechanistic, evolutionary, and biotechnological implications of enzymatic FT reactions.

Durable Electrooxidation of Acidic Water Catalysed by a Cobalt-Bismuth-based Oxide Composite: An Unexpected Role of the F-doped SnO2 Substrate

Hoang-Long Du et al.

Summary: This study aims to design a catalyst for stable electrooxidation of water at low pH. The properties and structural features of electrodeposited composite oxides based on Bi and Co are explored, and a distinctive feature of the Co-Bi-Sn-based electrocatalyst is discovered, which exhibits slow but persistent improvement in activity during operation. This research provides insights for the development of acidic water oxidation catalysts.

Mackinawite formation from elemental iron and sulfur

Robert Bolney et al.

Summary: Sulfur-assisted corrosion, a well-known process among material scientists, has been found to significantly accelerate the reaction and influence the Fe2+ ion content of the formed mackinawite when NaCl is added. This research proposes a novel model of charged layers to explain inconsistencies regarding the structure and particle characteristics of nano-mackinawite found in literature.
