Oxido-Molybdenum(V) Corroles as Robust Catalysts for Oxidative Bromination and Selective Epoxidation Reactions in Aqueous Media under Mild Conditions

Inderpal Yadav et al.

Summary: Two new meso-substituted oxido-molybdenum corroles were synthesized and characterized. The thermogram showed excellent thermal stability of MoO[TTC] (1) up to 491 degrees C and good stability of MoO[TNPC] (2) up to 318 degrees C. The molybdenum(V) oxidation states were verified using EPR spectroscopy and exhibited axial compression with dxy1 configuration. The oxido-molybdenum(V) complexes demonstrated high catalytic activity and selectivity for epoxidation and bromination reactions, with MoO[TNPC] (2) showing better performance due to the presence of electron-withdrawing nitro groups.

Porphyrinoids, a unique platform for exploring excited-state aromaticity

Jinseok Kim et al.

Summary: Baird (anti)aromaticity is a description of excited-state (anti)aromaticity, indicating that the Huckel aromatic or antiaromatic molecules in the ground state are reversed in the excited states. Porphyrinoids have played a significant role in demonstrating aromaticity reversal in excited states, contributing to its conceptual development and application in novel functional organic materials. This review provides an overview of experimental verification of excited-state aromaticity reversal by porphyrinoids and recent progress on its conceptual application in novel functional molecules.

Summary: This article investigates the photophysical, redox, and nonlinear optical properties of nonplanar and unsymmetrically beta-functionalized copper corroles. The results show the significant impact of beta-functionalization and nonplanarity on the corrole ring. These findings may open up new possibilities for nonlinear optical devices, femtosecond optical limiters, and other ultrafast photonic applications.

The Hyperporphyrin Concept: A Contemporary Perspective

Carl C. Wamser et al.

Summary: The Gouterman four-orbital model explains porphyrin UV-visible spectra as influenced by four key molecular orbitals, with two nearly degenerate HOMOs and two exactly degenerate LUMOs under D4h symmetry. These orbitals are well separated from others, and the transitions among them are involved in normal spectra. Additional peaks or significant shifts in the spectra can occur when extra orbitals in this energy range appear due to the presence of a coordinating atom, leading to LMCT or MLCT transitions. Hyperporphyrins show dramatic effects on spectra and can be generated by relatively simple changes or structural variations.

β-Disubstituted silver(III) corroles: Facile synthesis, photophysical and electrochemical redox properties

Inderpal Yadav et al.

Summary: A series of 3,17-disubstituted Ag(III) tritolykorroles were synthesized in good to excellent yields using Pd-catalyzed reactions. Among them, MA(2)[TTC]Ag (4) showed potential for nonlinear optical applications due to its high dipole moment. Redox tunability and lower HOMO-LUMO gap were achieved through substituting electron donating and withdrawing groups at the beta-positions.

Hydrogen evolution catalysis by terminal molybdenum-oxo complexes

Pinky Yadav et al.

Summary: This study reports the preparation of three conceptually different (oxo)molybdenum(V) corroles to test if proton-assisted 2-electron reduction leads to hyper-reactive molybdenum(III) catalysts capable of converting protons to hydrogen gas. The most electron-withdrawing catalyst showed excellent performance in catalyzing the HER from acidic water with a 97% Faradaic efficiency, suggesting molybdenum-based complexes as promising catalysts for other green-energy-relevant processes.

Here's looking at the reduction of noninnocent copper corroles via anion induced electron transfer

W. Ryan Osterloh et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis, electrochemical and spectroscopic characterization of copper triarylcor-roles with varying numbers of nuno-nitroaryl substituents. The ability of these derivatives to be chemically reduced via anion induced electron transfer (AIET) using cyanide or fluoride anions was explored. UV-visible spectra of the reduced corroles and species generated after the addition of CN- or F- were identical, confirming the occurrence of AIET event in these systems and suggesting the presence of noninnocence.
