Deep eutectic solvents with multiple catalytic sites for highly efficient extractive and oxidative desulfurization

Under optimal conditions, the 5-Sulfosalicylic acid /3 formic acid DES shows a desulfurization efficiency of up to 99.8%. The functional groups in the DES were found to exhibit excellent catalytic activity, reducing the reaction barrier and enabling deep desulfurization. This research provides a new idea for the design of high-performing catalytic DESs.

Porous phosphomolybdate-based poly(ionic liquid) hybrids with reversible water absorption for enhancement of oxidative desulfurization

Summary: This article reports a novel porous phosphomolybdate-based poly(ionic liquid) catalyst with 70% water (PDIM-PMo-W70%). The catalyst showed a turnover frequency (TOF) value of 41.15 h-1 for dibenzothiophene (DBT) removal, which was 35.47 and 9.92 times higher than that of HPMo and PDIM-PMo, respectively. The effects of water content, reaction temperature, H2O2/S molar ratio, catalyst dosage, and different sulfur-containing compounds on the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) performance were investigated in detail.

Amphiphilic halloysite nanotube enclosing molybdenum oxide as nanoreactor for efficient desulfurization of model fuels

Summary: In this study, an amphiphilic Mo/HNT/S nanoreactor was developed by immobilizing MoOx on the internal surface of halloysite nanotubes (HNT) and modifying the external surface with organosilanes. The catalyst exhibited high activity for oxidative desulfurization and showed improved stability over multiple cycles. The amphiphilic nature of the nanoreactor allowed for enhanced dispersion in the oil phase and formation of a concentrated microenvironment for the reactants and reactive oxygen species. This catalytic system eliminates the need for solvent extraction in the desulfurization process, making it a promising candidate for large-scale industrial applications.

Encapsulation of HPW and preparation of composites rich in Zr-defects by manual grinding: Synergistic catalysis for efficient oxidative desulfurization at room temperature

Summary: The development of catalysts with excellent performance in oxidative desulfurization at room temperature will greatly advance desulfurization technology. A novel and efficient strategy of incorporating HPW into UiO-66 through 4-aminopyridine molecular bridging and manual grinding was proposed to achieve stable PW loading and generate abundant defects, resulting in active complexes with strong oxidation ability. The prepared catalyst exhibited outstanding catalytic activity in the ODS system, achieving complete desulfurization in a short time at room temperature. The synergistic catalytic effect of the faulty UiO-66 and PW was identified as the main reason for the superior catalytic performance.

Design and preparation of polyoxometalate-based catalyst [MIMPs]3PMo6W6O40 and its application in deep oxidative desulfurization with excellent recycle performance and low molar O/S ratio

Phosphomolybdic acid encapsulated in ZIF-8-based porous ionic liquids for reactive extraction desulfurization of fuels

Summary: The novel PIL HPMo@ZIF-8-PIL shows efficient removal of dibenzothiophene sulfur in model oil under room temperature using hydrogen peroxide as the catalyst and oxidant. It promotes dispersion of catalytically active sites and retains good liquidity and excellent extraction ability of ionic liquids. The successful preservation of porosity increases the probability of contact between the oxidant and active sites, enhancing desulfurization performance.

Hydrogen bonding boosted oxidative desulfurization by ZnCl2/boric acid/polyethylene glycol-based ternary deep eutectic solvents

Summary: In this study, a series of ternary deep eutectic solvents were successfully synthesized and the deep desulfurization performance of these solvents was investigated. The results demonstrated that the hydrogen bonding interaction and the synergistic effect between boric acid and ZnCl2 played a positive role in the desulfurization reaction. Furthermore, the synthesized deep eutectic solvents showed potential for repeated use.

Ultrafine W2C well-dispersed on N-doped graphene: Extraordinary catalyst for ultrafast oxidative desulfurization of high sulfur liquid fuels

Summary: The ternary nanocomposite PW12-PEI/GO was developed as a precursor for the W2C/N-rGO catalyst, which exhibited extraordinary performance in deep oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of liquid fuel, particularly in the complete removal of DBT with high turnover frequency and low activation energy. Radical experiments and density functional theory calculations suggest that the ODS reaction mainly proceeds via a HO center dot radical mechanism. Furthermore, the W2C/N-rGO catalyst showed no obvious loss of performance after 6 cycles of recycling.

Selective adsorption desulfurization by single Al atom anchoring on the surface of hexagonal boron nitride through S-Al coordination

Summary: The concept of single atom adsorbents (SAAs) for highly selective adsorption desulfurization from diesel is proposed. By using density functional theory, Al-based SAAs with the Al atom anchoring on the surface of hexagonal boron nitride have been explored, and their stability, activity, and selectivity have been studied. The results show that Al-based SAAs can enhance the activity and selectivity of adsorptive desulfurization due to the newly formed S-Al coordination bond.

Deep aerobic oxidative desulfurization of model fuel by Anderson-type polyoxometalate catalysts

The role of solvent in aerobic oxidative desulfurization was investigated, showing that alkyl peroxides from the solvent could be the key stage in the oxidation of sulfur-containing compound. This study provides insights into the mechanism of oxidative desulfurization and the potential application of POM catalysts in sulfur removal from fuel.

Ultrafast Oxidative Desulfurization of Diesel Fuels by Mass Transfer Enhancement of Polyoxometalate Modified Alumina Catalysts

Dynamically-generated TiO2 active site on MXene Ti3C2: Boosting reactive desulfurization

The expanded slit layer in Ti3C2 MXene provides more pores and cavities for accelerated mass transfer, leading to efficient removal of sulfides in diesel. Additionally, the dynamically-generated active sites from continuous activation of molecular oxygen and Ti3C2 MXene play a key role in enhancing the catalytic activity.

Extraction desulphurization of fuels using ZIF-8-based porous liquid

Summary: The ZIF-8-PILs demonstrated high removal efficiencies for thiophene and benzothiophene under optimal conditions and can be easily recovered and reused due to their stable liquid porous structure. The synergistic effects of electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, and pi-complexation interactions among ILs, ZIF-8, and sulfur compounds contributed to the high removal efficiency. The results suggest that PILs are a new and promising extractant for fuel extraction desulfurization process.

Tandem-like vanadium cluster chains in a polyoxovanadate-based metal-organic framework for efficient catalytic oxidation of sulfides

Summary: A novel polyoxovanadate-based metal-organic framework with a unique tandem-like vanadium cluster chain structure was successfully synthesized and characterized, showing excellent catalytic activity in the oxidation of sulfides with mild oxidant hydrogen peroxide. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the lower LUMO energy level of the vanadium cluster chain in V-Ni-MOF contributes to its high activity under mild hydrogen peroxide conditions. Additionally, V-Ni-MOF maintained its excellent catalytic activity after multiple cycles, highlighting its potential as a stable heterogeneous catalyst.
