Flexible Aliphatic Diammonioacetates as Zwitterionic Ligands in UO22+Complexes: Diverse Topologies and Interpenetrated Structures

Sotaro Kusumoto et al.

Summary: N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethane-1,2-diammonioacetate (L1) and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylpropane-1,3-diammonioacetate (L2) are flexible zwitterionic dicarboxylates that serve as ligands for the uranyl ion. These ligands form 12 complexes with various anions, including anionic polycarboxylates and oxo, hydroxo, and chlorido donors. The complexes exhibit different structures and topologies, and some demonstrate significant fluorescence properties.

Pb-Oxo Interactions in Uranyl Hybrid Materials: A Combined Experimental and Computational Analysis of Bonding and Spectroscopic Properties

Dominique M. Brager et al.

Summary: The synthesis and characterization of six new heterometallic UO22+/Pb2+ compounds with rare M-oxo interactions were reported. The spectral effects of these interactions were measured using luminescence and Raman spectroscopy. Computational methods indicated that the interactions are mainly through charge transfer between cationic units, with energy values varying depending on the distance and angle of interaction. Strong interactions with Pb-oxo were found to weaken U=O bonds and led to luminescence quenching and red-shifting of the uranyl Raman stretch.

Stepwise Introduction of Flexibility into Aromatic Dicarboxylates Forming Uranyl Ion Coordination Polymers: a Comparison of 2-Carboxyphenylacetate and 1,2-Phenylenediacetate

Pierre Thuery et al.

Summary: The reaction of 2-carboxyphenylacetate and 1,2-phenylenediacetate with uranyl cations under solvohydrothermal conditions has been shown to generate various homo- or heterometallic complexes with different crystal structures and topological types. These results emphasize the importance of ligand flexibility and the ability to form large chelate rings in influencing the formation of compounds.
