Beneficial Effects of Low Iron Contents on Cobalt-Containing Spinel Catalysts in the Gas Phase 2-Propanol Oxidation

Maik Dreyer et al.

Summary: Oxidation reactions play a significant role in the industry, and mixed Co and Fe containing oxides are considered as promising substitutes for noble-metal-based catalysts due to their lower cost and higher thermal stability. Performing oxidation catalysis in the liquid phase can prevent total oxidation, and adding water vapor to the gas stream can bridge the gap between the gas and liquid phases. The study on nanocasted Co3-xFexO4 spinels reveals that low amounts of Fe are beneficial for the activity, but under wet conditions, competitive adsorption has a negative effect on the activity at lower temperatures during heating.

Degradation efficiency of the azo dye acid orange 2 and microbial community characteristics in a rotating algal biofilm reactor

Huichao Zhang et al.

Summary: The rotating algal biofilm (RAB) system shows promise for effectively treating wastewater with high concentrations of azo dyes, as it can achieve efficient degradation of acid orange 2. The degradation efficiency is higher under acidic and neutral conditions, and the biofilm in the RAB reactors can utilize the dye as a nitrogen source for its own growth, aiding in the degradation process.

Nanoclay Modulates Cation Occupancy in Manganese Ferrite for Catalytic Antibacterial Treatment

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports a new strategy based on the properties of nanoclay (montmorillonite K10) to modulate the cation occupancy of manganese ferrite. The strategy increases the proportion of Mn (II) in manganese ferrite and causes more manganese ions to migrate to the tetrahedral sites. The synthesized inorganic compound exhibits excellent enzyme-like catalytic activities and antibacterial functional properties.

Induced morphology orientation of α-FeOOH by kaolinite for enhancing peroxymonosulfate activation

Zhiming Sun et al.

Summary: Persulfate activation technology based on sulfate radicals is a hot research topic in the field of environmental governance. In this study, α-FeOOH was successfully loaded on the kaolinite surface through a one-step hydrothermal process, resulting in the formation of FeOOH/kaolinite composite. Compared to pure α-FeOOH, the composite exhibited uniform dispersed nanoparticles and excellent adsorption and degradation performance of ciprofloxacin.

Jiayun Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, Eu2O3/Co3O4 nanosheets were successfully synthesized and used to activate PMS for degrading LVX, exhibiting better catalytic performance compared to pure Co3O4. The Eu2O3/Co3O4 nanosheets efficiently removed 97.93% of LVX in just 6 minutes, with singlet oxygen playing a key role in the degradation process. Additionally, Eu2O3/Co3O4 showed good stability and reusability, making them a promising candidate for the rapid and efficient removal of recalcitrant pollutants.

Graphitic Carbon Nitride Composites with MoO3-Decorated Co3O4 Nanorods as Catalysts for Oxygen and Hydrogen Evolution

Imtiaz Ahmed et al.

Summary: A highly active and durable Co3O4/MoO3/g-C3N4 composite material was prepared via hydrothermal approach, demonstrating enhanced OER and HER activities compared to individual constituents and generating current density of 10 mA cm(-2) at low overpotentials of 206 mV and 125 mV for alkaline and acidic media, respectively. This work may pave the way for developing Co3O4/MoO3/g-C3N4 composite materials as electrocatalysts for overall water splitting reactions.
