The Marriage of Sierpinski Triangles and Platonic Polyhedra

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: Fractal structures with self-similarity are constructed using rational geometry-directed precursor design, resulting in two fascinating Platonic solids with Sierpinski triangles. These discrete complexes are formed through multi-component self-assembly and exhibit enhanced stabilities. This study provides new constructs for simulating complex virus assemblies and molecular encapsulation.

Creating Dynamic Nanospaces in Solution by Cationic Cages as Multirole Catalytic Platform for Unconventional C(sp)-H Activation Beyond Enzyme Mimics

Kang Li et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate the accomplishment of multirole and multi-way cage-confined catalysis by creating dynamic nanospaces in solution using highly charged positive coordination cage of [Pd-6(RuL3)(8)](28+). The biomimetic cage effect enables versatile functions and anomalous reactivities, and the amphoteric heterogeneity generated by partial deprotonation of imidazole-NHs on cage sphere enhances cavity-basicity against solution-acidity. The synergistic actions of cage hydrophobicity, host-guest electrostatic interactions, and imidazole-N coordination facilitate various catalytic reactions and phase transfers, providing a useful catalytic protocol that combines the merits of different types of catalysis.

Ruthenium Complexes Bearing Axially Chiral Bipyridyls: The Mismatched Diastereomer Showed Red Circularly Polarized Phosphorescence

Kazuto Takaishi et al.

Summary: A new family of chiral complex dyes was synthesized with ruthenium(II) complexes bearing three axially chiral bipyridyl ligands. The Delta-(S)- and ?-(S)-diastereomers exhibited different circularly polarized phosphorescence properties, with the ?-(S)-isomer showing significant CH/pi interactions to suppress distortion in the excited state T-1.

A 10-nm-sized multicompartment cuboctahedron and its 2D hierarchical arrays observed by cryo-EM

Lipeng He et al.

Summary: This study successfully constructs a 10-nm-sized cuboctahedron through dynamic heteroleptic complexation and multivalent ligand design. The cuboctahedron has a double-layered multicompartment structure and can self-assemble into ordered square arrays. Cryogenic electron microscopy reveals dislocations and grain boundaries of packing domains, which result in the formation of oblique arrays. This research provides a foundation for the bottom-up development of uniform two-dimensional materials.

Coupling Ruthenium Bipyridyl and Cobalt Imidazolate Units in aMetal-Organic Framework for an Efficient Photosynthetic OverallReaction in Diluted CO2

Ning-Yu Huang et al.

Summary: This study discovers a method for photocatalytic reduction of CO2 using water as the reductant under visible light. By incorporating classic photosensitive and catalytic units into a metal-organic framework, efficient photocatalytic CO2 reduction is achieved. The photocatalyst exhibits strong CO2 adsorption ability and high CO selectivity.

Substituted 2,4-Di(pyridin-2-yl)pyrimidine-Based Ruthenium Photosensitizers for Hydrogen Photoevolution under Red Light

Mira T. Rupp et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic reduction of water to form hydrogen gas shows promise in harnessing solar energy efficiently. The introduction of electron-donating or -withdrawing groups on terpyridine ligands can considerably improve the photophysical and electrochemical properties of ruthenium complexes used as photosensitizers. The presence of pyrimidine rings in the ligands leads to improved properties compared to terpyridine complexes, with enhanced activity in hydrogen evolution experiments.

Mingzhao Chen et al.

Summary: The manufacturing of special architectures with a predefined and predictable shape has received much attention due to their potential applications. Understanding the mechanistic principles of the designed ligand is crucial for further improvements, and subtle variations of a metallo-organic ligand can result in desired different coronal architectures. The successful construction of designable supramolecules highlights the possibility of synthesizing various structures based on requirements.
