Recent advances in direct air capture by adsorption

Xuancan Zhu et al.

Summary: Significant progress has been made in the field of direct air capture (DAC) in recent years, with the large-scale deployment of DAC through adsorption being technically feasible. However, further efforts are needed in adsorption-based DAC technologies. This review provides a comprehensive description of materials development, adsorbent shaping, characterization, simulation, process design, system integration, and economic analysis of adsorption-based DAC. It emphasizes the importance of developing affordable DAC adsorbents and efficient DAC adsorptive processes. The synergy between DAC and carbon capture technologies can contribute to mitigating the long-term effects of climate change. Further investigations into DAC application in various industries are also necessary.

Cage-Like Porous Materials with Simultaneous High C2H2 Storage and Excellent C2H2/CO2 Separation Performance

Zhengyi Di et al.

Summary: Adsorption-based separation is important for C2H2 purification due to its environmentally friendly and energy-efficient advantages. However, the balance between adsorption capacity and separation performance remains a challenge. The newly developed cage-like porous materials FJI-H8-R show excellent C2H2 adsorption and separation performance, with FJI-H8-Me exhibiting particularly long breakthrough times.

Second-Sphere Interaction Promoted Turn-On Fluorescence for Selective Sensing of Organic Amines in a TbIII-based Macrocyclic Framework

Junyu Ren et al.

Summary: Guided by a second-sphere interaction strategy, a Tb(III)-based metal-organic framework (MMCF-4) was fabricated for turn-on sensing of methyl amine with ultra-low detection limit and high turn-on efficiency. The design of both primary and secondary coordination spheres of Tb(III) enabled the first turn-on sensing of organic amines in aqueous conditions, suggesting a promising strategy for high-performance turn-on sensing for Ln-MOFs and luminous materials driven by other metal chromophores.

Overcoming Metastable CO2 Adsorption in a Bulky Diamine-Appended Metal-Organic Framework

Bhavish Dinakar et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that MOFs materials in carbon capture technology exhibit tunable, step-shaped CO2 adsorption profiles, with the half-capacity state actually being a metastable intermediate that converts slowly and cannot be observed in traditional measurements. By conducting experiments under specific conditions, the metastable state can be avoided and full CO2 capacity absorption achieved.
