Mixed component metal-organic frameworks: Heterogeneity and complexity at the service of application performances

Marta Viciano-Chumillas et al.

Summary: The synthesis of mixed-component metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is a rapidly growing research field, offering unique possibilities to incorporate multiple functionalities and properties that are not simply the sum of each component. Despite challenges, promising ways to utilize the intrinsic properties of mixed-components MOFs for breakthroughs in catalysis and nanotechnology are presented through exemplary cases.

Hetero-interpenetrating porous coordination polymers

Kai-Chi Chang et al.

Summary: Interpenetrating porous coordination polymers (IPCPs) are coherent structures formed by two or more mechanically interlocked networks. The framework topology and chemical composition are the two important criteria to distinguish homo-IPCPs from hetero-IPCPs. Hetero-IPCPs, compared to abundant homo-IPCPs, are rare and often formed unexpectedly.
