Orthorhombic LiMnO2 nano-particles were successfully synthesized by a simple and facile one-step hydrothermal method in which the industrial electrolytic MnO2 and C4H6MnO4.4H(2)O were used directly as raw materials. The whole hydrothermal process did not involve any template reagent or additional surfactant. The effects of hydrothermal parameters such as reaction temperature, reaction time and lithium concentration on the purity of LiMnO2 were studied. XRD and SEM analysis showed that the optimal LiMnO2 sample could present high purity, small particle diameter and uniform particle size distribution. In particular, it could deliver a superior discharge capacity of 252.6 mA h g(-1) at 0.05 C in the voltage range of 2.0-4.3 V. Furthermore, the optimal LiMnO2 sample exhibited excellent cycling stability, high coulombic efficiency and small charge transfer resistance. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.
