BERT-SMAP: Paying attention to Essential Terms in passage ranking beyond BERT

Dengwen Lin et al.

Summary: Passage ranking is crucial in information retrieval and question answering, and pre-trained language models like BERT have been shown to improve performance. However, these models can be easily fooled by overlapping but irrelevant passages. To address this issue, a self-matching attention-pooling mechanism (SMAP) and a hybrid passage ranking architecture called BERT-SMAP have been proposed to better identify distracting passages.

Novel target attention convolutional neural network for relation classification

Zhiqiang Geng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel target attention convolutional neural network (TACNN) for relation classification task, which fully utilizes word embedding and position embedding information to extract relationships between entity pairs in textual sentences. By applying the target attention mechanism in the context layer of the convolutional neural network model, the influence of the relationship matrix weights of entity pairs in the sentence is enhanced, while the calculation of irrelevant terms is ignored. In experiments, TACNN achieves high F1 scores on two datasets, surpassing the performance of previously available public models.

Predicting the quality of answers with less bias in online health question answering communities

Yan Qiu et al.

Summary: This article proposes an automatic approach for predicting the quality of online health question answering (HQA) that combines sentence-level semantics with textual and non-textual features. By utilizing the knowledge adoption model (KAM) theory, Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model, and linear discriminant analysis (LDA), the method successfully extracts and reduces dimensionalities of features, and applies the BK-XGBoost method for predicting answer quality. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms baseline models, with up to 2.9% and 5.7% improvement in AUC value compared to BERT and XGBoost models, respectively.

A deep learning-based multi-turn conversation modeling for diagnostic Q&A document recommendation

Zhan Yang et al.

Summary: Online healthcare communities have become important sources of medical information, and effectively reusing and discovering the value of this data is crucial for addressing medical resource shortages. This study focuses on modeling and understanding diagnostic multi-turn Q&A records, proposing a deep-learning recommendation framework based on patient needs, Q&A content, and doctor background information. Evaluation on a real dataset showed that the proposed model performed well in recommending diagnostic Q&A records, surpassing baseline models. This model has the potential to reduce patient costs and alleviate doctors' work pressure in areas with limited medical resources.
