Numerical and experimental investigation of the cavitation field in horn-type sonochemical reactors

Kobra Fattahi et al.

Summary: The implosion of ultrasound-generated bubbles in a liquid medium leads to chemical effects, which accelerate reactions. The relationship between bubble dynamics and chemical activity in different cavitation zones of horn-type sonoreactors is not well understood. This study used sonochemiluminescence and KI dosimetry to investigate the sonochemical activity of a custom-designed sonoreactor. The results showed that the number density and size of cavitation bubbles depend on acoustic pressure and the location of chemically active zones. The study also identified an optimal combination of probe immersion depth and input power to achieve high chemical activity.

Ultrasound/Complexing Agent-Assisted Solvent Extraction Behavior of Zn2+ with D2EHPA from Sulfuric Media Containing Transition and Rare-Earth (Fe, Ni, Cd, La, and Ce) Metal Ions

Razieh Habibpour et al.

Summary: This study compared the extraction efficiency of ultrasound/complexing agent-assisted solvent with a magnetic stirred system and no complexing agents for extracting Zn2+ from sulfuric media containing metal impurities. The presence of different aqueous solutions, ultrasound power levels, and types of complexing agents led to varying effects on the extraction and separation of Zn.
