Performance and mechanism of innovative two-phase partitioning microbial fuel cell for effective propanethiol treatment

Juping You et al.

Summary: A two-phase partitioning microbial fuel cell (TPPMFC) was constructed with silicone particles as solid non-aqueous phase, which enhanced the mass transfer and removal efficiency of hydrophobic volatile organic sulfur compounds. The addition of 2 % 0.4 mm silicone particles significantly improved the performance of the microbial fuel cell, with a 91 % removal efficiency of 500 mg/L of propanethiol achieved within 24 hours.

Mass transfer and reaction simultaneously enhanced airlift microbial electrolytic cell system with high gaseous o-xylene removal capacity

Yuanming Li et al.

Summary: The integration of an airlift reactor and a microbial electrolysis cell in the development of an airlift microbial electrolysis cell system has successfully addressed the limitations in mass transfer and reaction rate in the biodegradation of gaseous o-xylene. The system achieved a high removal efficiency of 95.4% under optimized conditions, and maintained a removal efficiency of approximately 75% even at high inlet o-xylene loads. The presence of O-2 had a positive effect on the ring-opening process in the o-xylene oxidation. The study also confirmed the dominant microbial communities involved in o-xylene degradation and electroactivity.

Lijuan Qi et al.

Summary: This paper reports the preparation of a polypyrrole-carbon nanotube hydrogel with 3D macroporous structure and its application as an anode in a microbial fuel cell. The hydrogel showed good conductivity and biocompatibility. The MFC with the hydrogel anode exhibited excellent electrical performance, achieving high power density and low electrochemical reaction impedance. Moreover, the hydrogel anode demonstrated efficient decolorization and COD removal rates in wastewater treatment, indicating its promising application prospects in synchronous wastewater treatment and electricity production of MFC.

Roles of Oxygen Species in Low-Temperature Catalytic o-Xylene Oxidation on MOF-Derived Bouquetlike CeO2

Ji Mei et al.

Summary: In this study, MOF-derived CeO2-X catalysts were prepared via the pyrolysis of MOF precursors with different ratios of cerium nitrate to trimesic acid. Among them, the bouquet like CeO2-1 showed the best activity for low-temperature catalytic o-xylene oxidation. The rich active oxygen species and abundant oxygen vacancies in CeO2-1 played a crucial role in its superior catalytic activity.
